My take in the wording (if words are used) would have to include the word "Hill" in it somewhere......just sayin'

I agree with that, Irish.  American Semi-Long is only part of the equation.  Now that I think about it our true fascination lies in the legend of Howard Hill himself.  His equipment is just a piece of that legend.

But since we can't be Howard, we utilize his equipment to the best of our ability.  That's what bonds us.  It's what the circle is all about.  Doesn't matter if you target shoot, hunt, collect or just dream of a Hill Bow.  There are many of us out there that don't even own a Hill Bow yet, but feel a connection here anyway.  That's how I got here and that's why I stick around.

So if you agree to have this coin created you must also agree to keep this thread going.  It takes a lot of effort and determination.  It takes respect and self policing.  I think we're on a good track.  Let's keep it that way and keep the circle complete.

As for the wording maybe something with Howard Hill Bug (in honor of the thread title) or Howard Hill Bow or Hill Bow would work.

The one bow that I spoke of in an earlier post that I would put a medallion on isn't a Hill bow but most definitely a Hill style bow.

It's the man and "his style" in every sense of the word including the bows that we'd be honoring.(IMHO)

I do not think that using the Hill broadhead is appropriate.  Dick Wightman used that on the Longbowman's Choice bows and I for one wouldn't want to steal his idea.  [/QB]
Oops...I didn't know that....I agree that would not be a cool thing to do without permission.

QuoteI also don't believe that an image of a broadhead accurately depicts the message this medallion is attempting to express.  Not everyone hunts with these bows, so a broadhead may never come off the string of some of them.  [/QB]
I could be wrong here but it seems to me that hunting is the thing we have in common...one half of the equation.  We are hunters.

The other half of the equation being that we choose do it "The Hard Way" (trad) using the bow that was inspired by Howard Hill exclusively..   :p

This is fun and no matter how it turns out it'll be a good thing.

Blessings!

Did everyone go to bed early? C'mon, it's Christmas peeps!....   ;)

Rik

The new year will be upon us soon.

I wonder what adventures are planned. . . or are in the recesses of your mind?

Wild, Wild Australia beckons me once again, but so do moose in areas best glided in silent canoes. . .

Any Hill Bow Types but me dreaming of wild places, and well-placed arrows?

Well, I guess we decided on a medaillion and a t-shirt.

And it seems everyone has agreed on the pic that Rik posted of Howard drawing the bow.

Now, all we need is a slogan.

How about:

"Hill Style Shooters of American Flatbow Society"

"The American Hill Style Flatbow Shooters Society"

"The Classic American Hill Style Flatbow Shooters Society"

Of course, Rik! We have steady rain all day here today from Tropical Cyclone Grant. I imagine all the pigs out there somewhere, happy and safe from hunters, hopefully breeding and relaxing in their vigilance.

Sounds like a good day to build arrows.    :D

In answer to your question Rik, the answer is yes and it is a resounding yes!

The quarry on my mind in addition to our elusive whitetail deer are those contrary cottontails.

I have been waiting for our 1st good snowfall and for my hunting buddy Jeff to act as my back up before getting after them.

I'd hate to make a bad shot on one without having a backup at ready to be sure that "the hunter"(me) doesn't become the hunted...lol

The adrenaline rush is awesome when you see that flash of brown with a smallish patch of white fury busting threw the briars and brambles.

Anyone who has hunted in prime cottontail country knows already that at the end of the day they can expect not only the excitement of the hunt but the loss of some of their own blood as green briars, blackberry and other thorny plants try to remove your clothing and skin.

Oh well, it's just collateral damage and a small price to pay for a full dinner plate of fried wascally wabbit, mashed taters and milk gravy made in the remains of the same skillet that cooked up the quarry.

IMHO, I would really love to have a few t-shirts stating our passion for the bows, this site, and in particular this thread. I also think the medallion is a good idea, although I doubt I would drill a hole in my bow. Especially one that I might sell. Something that could be removed is another thing entirely, as I could remove it, sell the bow, and put it on the new one. I just have a hard time putting a cutting tool a bow, yikes! Both are great ideas, and I am ready to participate. A nice vinyl decal for your vehicle would be great too!

I got pulled for a quota hunt in March for Osceola turkey. Can't wait to get out there; the weather in Florida drops to about 70 degrees that time of the year. It's a really nice time of the year to get out in the woods.

The best way to get that answered Joe is to go to the HH web page and get the phone number and give Craig a call. He's a great guy to talk with anytime.

Guys,

I emailed Dick Wrightman the other day to wish him a Merry Christmas, he told me that he still has some Howard Hill patches that he had made when he was running the Hill Longbowman list. Checkout his website if your interested in getting one.
