I delivered a new bow to a customer today ...a 70" String Follow Wesley Special 42# @ 29" 70" long...clear glass with bacote riser and antler tips .
It was great to see a new bow in the hands of a new longbowmen ... and man was this bow smooth to draw !!! Maybe a nice 42#'er for me soon for targets ?
Craig did me a huge favor organizing great shipping times .

They are just a standout business !

Look around as Ben K will likely be showing something new over the coming months !

Well, the sun is up but not here-very dreary outside so will have to put some lights on inside the house to take pictures.

Overspined

Out of Hill bows, has anyone found arrow length sticking out the front of your bow at full draw to have any bearing on flight characteristics, assuming both are tuned correctly?  In terms of being forgiving, or more stable?

I am convinced that a higher GPP increases stability, and of course reduces noise, but I wonder how arrow length factors in???

Hey HillGang-

I came across this pic the other day and wanted to share it here with everyone. Howard has such great form, in every picture his in, he has that classic bent elbow and he looks so comfortable at full draw.

Merry Christmas everyone,

Darren

Now THAT'S a picture worth a thousand words!

Mudd

I wonder...... since he posing for that photo if he might be anchoring just a little differently that if he were actually making a shot?

I only ask because of where the string is in relation to his eye.

Great picture!!  Thanks for sharing.

God bless,Mudd

I always wondered why Hill's left eye seemed to be bigger when shooting than his left....then Schulz let it be know that Hill was left eye dominate.  That photo displays it very well.

can a shooting pose be more fluid and casual than that?

tradlongbow

Nate- I read that somewhere years ago that he was left eye dominate. This is probably the best pic that I 've come across that it's really noticeable. If you look at the pic that I posted a few months ago of Howard pulling back the bow in a room, we have 2 very good close up pictures of both angles of him drawing the bow. Darren

I've heard that Hill had different poses for publicity that showed more 'face' and hence, the string angle at anchor would look 'off' from what was his normal anchor.

Hill used a stiff glove, the fingers don't close as much around the string.  When he anchored farther back on his jaw, at an empty tooth socket, the stiff glove makes it appear that he is anchoring farther forward on his face.  I've taken photos of myself shooting, holding at full draw with solid anchor, that look like I'm barely touching the front of my face when using a stiff glove.  With a softer glove, the photo view is different.

Kelly

Well here goes and they are the best I can do right now-I'm just not good at taking pictures.

Yesterday I was able to finally put my hands on a John Schulz Natural all bamboo longbow. It's not the most perfect fit for me but is real close-probably as close as I'm going to get when finding a Schulz. I needed one 66" in length and mid 40's poundage @ 28". What I ended up getting was a 64" that is 37# @ 25" so if I take it easy and not draw to much it will be around 44/45#. I know one should not draw these shorter bows sof ar but I don't have any other choice.

Kelly

Love the tiny tips and man is it smooth to draw. Still have not been able to shoot it as it is raining-hopefully later today.

Kelly-

Awesome looking bow. Is that Magnus broadheads? That's the only ones that I use, very hard steel and sharpens well too.

Kelly nice bow!  be on the lookout for another long tube....

looks like an Ace broadhead to me.

I'd draw that bow many, many times at a lower draw length, gradually working up to your draw to 'break it in',  and don't hold it long when you shoot.

tradlongbow

Nate, I think your right it's probably an Ace Head.

Over the last year, we have done such a wonderful job with this thread. It's grown into an encyclopedia of everything Hill. With all the information that we've added and pics, this thread is full of great information on Hill bow's and Hill's style of shooting.

I want to thank everyone for sharing their passion of Hill bows. Most of the time it's the only thread that I go to.

Yep, that is an Ace Express, 165 grain.

Oh no, now I'll be waiting anxiously on pins and needles for that other long tube!   ;)   You guys are not going to believe what is in that next long tube. Hint: Something very different and unusual to come out of the Idaho bowyer.   :D

Forecast is for the 40's and sunshine for this weekend so maybe I'll get to shoot both bows.

Don't worry-that long tube is several weeks away yet.
