Regarding Hill bow weights--I wish they could get that fixed.  All the bows I have ordered from Craig have been 4# heavier than ordered and marked--I got one on this site used that was actually 6# over marked weight. That isn't acceptable as far as I'm concerned. And it isn't my scale that's the problem because I have checked them on other scales with the same results.  My other longbows from Fred Anderson, Northern Mist, Wallace Mountain, ShrewHill, Liberty, and Hummingbird all scale as marked. Wonder whose scale is off?  I advised a buddy who was ordering one from Hill to order 4# lighter than he wanted as his target weight.  He did and it came in 4# heavier then marked/ordered but right on the weight he wanted.

As much as I love HHA bows, I have to agree with David that there is an issue with the draw weights.  We shouldn't be having a discussion about it at all.  Now I haven't ordered a new Hill bow so I haven't had to make the dreaded "should I go 4# lighter" decision.  I've also never tillered a bow, so I don't know how labor intensive the process is or how difficult it is to hit the mark.

I am of the opinion that if someone is ordering a truly custom bow that the bow should come in +/- 2# of the requested weight.  To be honest I think 1# isn't asking much when spending over $500 on a longbow.

Now I have had great dealings with Craig and Co. out there in MT.  He's always answered my questions via email completely and quickly.  But, if I were to order a new bow I would be very adamant about hitting the mark +/- 1# or the bow might come back to MT.

Maybe Craig needs a new scale.  It's VERY unlikely that everyone else's scales are off. Maybe in the rush to finish a bunch of bows quickly.  They do have what may be the shortest wait time in the Hill bow business.  Nobody but the HHA gang really knows, but I believe it should be something that gets resolved sooner than later.

Ok Hill Gurus explain this.  I have been having a devil of a time matching arrow to my Wesley.  I moved the Nock height and BH and all different arrows.  Well I changed my nock point to under the arrow and now this bow likes a wide range of spines even up to 30 grains different point with the same arrow.  I have even shot Broadheads and they all fly like darts as well.

Chris,

I have had the same experience.  Nocking above the nocking point has always lended itself to better arrow flight.  Not sure of the dynamics going on.  You just have to get the serving and nock fit just right so that the arrow does not slip too much and is not too tight.  I think you need more "forgiveness" off the inflexable shelf in the upward position for the back of the arrow.  Howard Hill, John Schulz, and many others shoot with the nock point under.  It just works.

I love my Shelton, it is quickly becomming my favorite bow.  I am still surprised with the preformance it yields.  I guess I just assumed a string follow bow would be slower, a lot slower.  I like the ease of draw, the smoothness upon release and it is as quiet as my self bow.  I took it stumping this past weekend and had a blast!

Bob.
I've had mine for less than a week, so we're still getting acquainted, but so far I love it! I guess I really didn't understand the forgiving thing until I shot this bow. I also can't believe how quiet it is. I did lose some draw length due to the low wrist grip required by the straight, Hill-style grip...about an inch I think. It doesn't seem to hurt the speed of the bow. The limbs are trapped much like my Kanati, which is also incredibly fast for its weight.

The advantage of the shorter draw is that I can use my 500 spine (2016) arrows cut to 28". This allows me to add a bit more weight up front for improved FOC and 10+ grains per pound of draw weight. I'm still experimenting with my POC arrows. It looks like maybe 50-55s cut to 28" BOP should work with Deltas or Grizzlies.

As for the nocking point, I shot with Blacky and some guys at ********* archery using some high speed cameras. We noticed that the arrow will often slide downward up to an inch or more upon release due to gravity and to reach the midpoint of the string unless there was a nocking point below the arrow. Obviously the amount depended on the bow and the original nocking point setting. Some bows had little to no movement while others showed quite a lot. Mine showed non because I already nocked above thanks to "Hittin' em like Howard Hill".

This could explain why you were having trouble.

maybe Hill knew more than he let on about nocking the arrow above...maybe he had access to high speed cameras.... ;)

haha! More likely super-human vision or something. That would explain the ability to shoot small moving targets so well!

That makes since Khardrunner I can see how that could easily happen.  Well what ever the reason I think I like it.  Also another plus it is easier and faster nocking from a back quiver.  On a side note I have stuck with using one and have done some hunting with it and think that I prefer it.  It just becomes a second skin.

Bought a Hill "Wild Boar" on the weekend. One of my best friends and hunting partners "Harl" had a very, very similar one and I loved it! I will post pics when she arrives,, Frank

A long tube arrived today from Ohio and in it contains a bow that I have been looking for for well over a year, now. I know, I know you all want to see pictures but will have to wait till tomorrow for good sun light. This bow deserves the best lighting so this poor cameraman can take some quality pictures.
