Ben
I've got 2 like that now.      :biglaugh:      :biglaugh:   I'm thinking more old school this time.

Ground Hunter, my Wesley has brown glass and it's very dark, think dark chocolate--so dark it almost looks black.  I love the look of colored glass--guess that's because I'm "old school" myself--or just OLD.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Ground Hunter

Yea, I'm leaning toward the Black glass.  I'll give it until Monday in the A.M. - then a call to HHA.  Good thing they are not open on Sundays.     :D    :D    :D

My next will be a Half-Breed ,boo cores with Yew skins under clear glass, nothing like aged yew for that old time look.

My next bow will be brown glass on back. I'm going to order mine in June.

Steve,

I just heard from Craig yesterday - he's putting the finishing touches on my Half Breed as we speak. Couldn't agree more with respect to the appearance of Yew limbs. Very classic, very nice.

What are the advantages if any of yew versus bamboo?  When I placed a deposit with David he mentioned he had some nice pieces of yew if I was interested.

Overspined

Yew is a fantastic material for bows, but soft so succeptible to dents.  Bamboo may eek out a little extra speed and is harder and more durable. I love the look of yew, and shoots fast, and smooth. Love my Redman!  So like you guys I have a halfbreed on order with boo cores for a little extra durability on the edges and its a T/D for packing. Can't wait.

The difference for many will be slight.  However, I notice a difference in the all Boo Wesley over my Cheetah (mine has 3 inner Boo lams and Juniper belly and back)  on the first arrow - very smooth draw with all Boo.

My Lofton has 3 lams of boo sandwitched between skins of yew and clear glass. You have to look real close to even tell there is glass on it,,it looks like an all wood bow.The riser is walnut with a few thin strips of what looks like boo and it and the limb tips are over layed with zebra wood. When you pick the bow up it feels like a toy, feather light and almost dainty. It always amazes me when i am shooting it,something that doesnt weigh much over a pound and is so simple but sends an arrow down range so leathal.

When yew is right it is really right, certainly bamboo is smooth and predictable, but there is a life in a good yew bow that is addictive.

I used to make split cane flyrods so i am familiar with bamboo or cane. It is not all the same, some kinds have much stronger power fibers than others. Also, its best qualities really come out when it is heat treated properly.I am not sure what type of cane bow makers use or if it is heat treated or not.It can be heat treated and still keep its blonde color or it can be done so that it has varying degrees of carmel coloring. When you use cane to make a fly rod you use a special jig that holds the strip of cane so that you can plain it down into triangle shaped strips that are tapered. Most cane rods are made up of six of these strips that are then glued together into a hex shaped blank. On the tips of these rods the strips are so fine they can sometimes look almost like a horse hair they are so small but are still amazingly strong. They are also so sharp they can and commonly do, cut you like a razor blade. If you look at the end grain on a piece of can it looks like a bunch of round fibers almost like a bunch of strands of string. It is completly difrent than any wood and in fact is a grass.Really cool stuff.

Did the deed!!  Talked to Craig this morning and decided to get one of the In-Stock bows.  So, a new 70inch, 65#, Wesley with black glass and wrap is headed to Texas.  My season doesn't end until Jan 15, so still a chance for some blood on it!

toddster

I have a Redman and a Wesley special both 50 pounds.  Thinking of getting a tembo or big 5, guys what are your opinions on the two, I prefer my redman over special.

Rossco7002

You could get a Half Breed and combine the two?

Toddster I think you would love the Tembo in that weight.

All this bow talk...

I just got off the phone with Craig.  Ordered a 66" string follow Wesley 65@26 with a 2" dished riser. The limbs will be dark carmelized boo with brown glass back and clear belly.  The dark Shedua riser will be wrapped in tan.  I love everything about my Tembo except the 1 3/4" grip.  To me, it feels way too small for a Hill style bow. My Yellowstone Hill grip is a perfect 2" dished but the yew and osage limbs make the bow feel physically heavy.  Gotta have the 2" dished grip and boo limbs to be happy so I figured I'd just go ahead and try out the Wesley Special.

I'm heading to Kansas the day after Christmas with my 70" Redman 58#'s for a last chance whitetail along with Whip. It's funny, how when you feel most confident in your shooting that the shooting opportunities seem to disappear.
