Probably one of the most awesome backdrops and intimidators I have ever seen at a shoot.  Brickerville,Pa.

Fmscan, you might have theses guys thinking you could not kill that target but I know for sure you would bank one off one of those Oak limbs and send it right in the vitals.

When Lori saw this target she had a meltdown right in the middle of the powerline.

                              Good Shooting,

Thanks Monkeyball, I think you know the mad man that sets this course. How you doing. The picture looks even better than when I envisioned the shot. Course 1 Spring Bowhunters Festival, Brickerville Pa. Going to try and top that one this year.

There is your commi,pinko guys.

Yep that's me I guess. Nice thing about our shoot you can walk up to the target if you like and are welcome to do so. All about fun right? Heck I think I snuck up on him...second shot! Wheel bow guys were shaking in their shoes. Seemed they thought not to trust their range finders.

Longbow58

Thanks for the pic that was awesome. Some very funny posts.

I'll take an "x" see you at the next target. Our home range has a river running through it.  And would you believe it. About 15 of the 40 of the targets sit right in front of the water at any given shoot. Totally messes with you're mind.

Lol great post! I love it and I have to say I would pull a new arrow right out of my quiver and let it rip! The glory of a kill shot well worth $10. I don't wanna shoot 30 targets set up like this but one ... Sure that's funny. Reminds me of the iron covered deer at Denton Hill. You can hear the hoots and cheers through the woods long before you see the target.... Love it.   :bigsmyl:

At a now defunct club outside Brevard,North Carolina most targets weren't broadside or easy shots. The hardest shot was a Dahl sheep quartering away with part of the rump in front of some large outcroppings of boulders with the majority of the target right on the edge of a very steep 500 foot dropoff. Plus you had a steep 200 foot climb to get to the target. Not to brag but I was the only shooter to attempt and to make a killing shot plus taking a second shot to hit the 10 or 12 ring. One of the land owners who also put on the shoots told me he set this target pretty much as a joke, not really expecting anyone to attempt it. Sad to see this club close as it was one that for the most part have every animal broadside or at a clear shot.

A friend says......" You miss this one and the arrow will need a stewardess".......Marty is a funny guy!!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

As someone who has lost his fair share of arrows, I for one applaud targets like this and the others mentioned (provided they're safely arranged). As the saying goes, "Nothing concentrates the mind like the imminent prospect of losing an arrow."

Experiencing that mental pressure has a lot to commend it as hunting seasons approach.

It mostly comes down to ones belief in his/her shooting ability. I don't see much difference between this and those who use a junk golf ball when water comes into play.  You either believe in yourself or you don't.

Personally, I grab the best flying arrow I have, pick a spot, concentrate on form, and then make the shot.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Can you be 100% sure that is a safe shot. Nobody on the other side ( down in the valley).

I don't see the need to ever place a target in that position and the clubs that do, don't get my business again. Being a "fairly" decent shot I would still pass on that target, but what about the new shooters and the younger shooters after they lose a few arrows, not fun, probably not coming back. One of our local clubs placed a target in an uncut grass field at 55 yards another club placed a target on the edge of a swamp at 45 yards, miss and your arrow is gone. I don't turn in score cards so if I skip a target or stalk up for the shot it is no big deal but I refuse to support any club that makes their money from selling "lost arrows"

Just my take on the subject

James
I agree with this 1000%

You never take a shot at a target (or an animal) if you can't see what is behind it. Absolutely sending the wrong message, and teaching people who don't know any better A Bad Practice.

Assuming the distance to target isn't ridiculous,
this is a shot I pray for when hunting. Looking away, broadside and clear of obstruction.
A shot most all bowhunters should make considering the size of the kill zone. Ignoring whats behind and Concentrating on a small spot should bury your arrow in his lungs.

At the Blanford (IN) shoots years ago the last target was and iron doe. 4" hole for the score. One could hear the misses all over the course. This was not too far from where Ed Pitchkites lives.
...because bow hunting always involves the same essentials. One hunter. One arrow. One animal. -Don Thomas
