Last year I had a flu shot and got the flu three times!

I have never had a flu shot and I have not had the flu or a cold in 30 years.  I thinks it is from the healthy effects of sniffing broken cedar arrows, or is it Fletchtite?

Thanks for the information Frank!   I missed it earlier...

The question is are you going to get a flu shot this year?
I don't trust them one bit or any vaccination for that mater.

Congrats Bob.... you said by the weekend? do they really ship that fast? I guess I have spent too much time in the desert and playing APO games, I called on Tues for my Wesley Special,(68"55#@28) it's now the pain of waiting.  Checking to make sure it's all real.  Saw the charges pending yesterday, logged in this AM to see the charges finalized in the bank.... and just waiting to see what that Koa Riser and Black satin lam look like together. If there are odds of actually getting that by the weekend, I better get that 'to do' list knocked out tomorrow.
Thanks all for the Hill Itch, all the insight of this thread, and the handful of PMs from very helpful folks.

Did the new Hill come in with the Koa riser? Can't wait to see pics.

Package from 3 Rivers was here when I got home, tied up a 18 strand B50 with #4 serving and .030 for a nock tie. Seems a touch tight on my arrow nocks but I'll shoot it a bit tomorrow and see if it wears in. Can't believe how good my first string turned out!

What nock are you shooting?  Are you shooting the nylon serving?

#4 or #400 nylon is about .017" in diameter, about the same as b50 or b500 or even b55.  nylon serving is soft and compressible.  i use nylon for loop serving and prefer to use spectra (bcy's halo brand) for the center serving as it's incredibly durable and doesn't change shape (compress) under a load or from wear ... highly durable.

take care in making sure the center serving creates a loose fit to all arrow nocks.  any form of nock grip to the center serving can, and typically will, affect accuracy!

Thanks for the pointers Rob, always appreciate them!

I'm shooting the Easton nocks that came on my 2117s, and it's the nylon serving that Rob referenced.

If it's just too thick I'll probably do a new string with less strands and use the .030 halo for the serving.

Well I received the new Cheetah Hill bow yesterday, but I worked until 6:30pm and my boy had a football game at 7pm, so I had to wait until this morning to shoot it ... can you imagine how much sleep I got?!?!

Anyhow, so far I love it.  It is 70 inches and says 48 at 28 ... I think it is heavier.  It is still all good.  I have averaged 580 grain arrows @ 160 FPS.  The string is not shot in and the brace is still a bit high so I believe this will improve.  My elbow is real sensitive to hand shock ... incredibly, no worries, I am surprised at how nice it is to shoot without my eyes blurring from the jolt.  So, I really like it so far.  I have a lot to do get her tuned proper, what arrows she wants, what brace, etc.  However so far I am pleased at how well it does.

Any chance you can post these pics for me on Tradgang ... I have no clue how to do it.

Thanks again for all you help Mudd.

PS, the limbs are of course for a regular Cheetah, 2 cores of boo and back and belly juniper with a riser of Cocobolo.

Also, the arrows I made and were shot at 17 yards with broad heads at a foam target at the base of a hillside.  I figured I shot ok for the first handful of arrows from a brand new bow.

Lastly, the white tape on the string is just a temporary knock placement for tuning.  Once I get it figured, I will tie a proper knock and the tape will be removed.

No don't think I'm getting a flu shot this year!

Rik it is you and your style of shooting that caused me to want to try something different.

Years ago shooting my own style I tried this and things didn't go so well so I almost immediately went back to my own style.

Well over the last year I made another change with the help of Nate Steen, Spanky Neal, and John Schulz video "Hitt'em like Howard Hill".

I switched to shooting "Hill" style much to my pleasure.

I have been shooting forever "split finger" with the exception of my very short trial earlier in my traditional experience.

After doing some reading and much thought I decided to give Rik's method of shooting 3 under a try.

Here are my 1st arrows shot 3 under out of 3 different bows. The distance wasn't far but I was impressed anyway.

These 6 are out of my 66" Osage Royale that's marked 58@27 but draws 56@28 by my scales.

These next 6 are out of my NM Sheldon 66" 55@28

And lastly are 6 shot out of my Howard Hill Wesley Special 66" 48@28

God bless,Mudd

Darren-
I am still doing laps back and forth out to the curb waiting to see that pretty little white truck coming up the block.... this whole waiting thing is totally over rated.  I just keep cruising the forum trying to take notes... brace heights, nock heights, arrow builds and weights.  Maybe when I pull this thing out of the box and head for the first hay bail I can find I would feel like a total retard.

As soon as I am done staring at her I will post some pictures.
Thanks for the thoughts.

Good news folks, I shot my Hill for over two hours and I can still feel my fingers! I can't believe I almost sold this bow with it's only flaw being a string that was too skinny!

I put just over 150 arrows down range with it and the nocks never settled in so I'm making a new string tomorrow. This string was 18 strands of B50 with one layer of .030 serving. Now my choice is 14 or 16 strands, and either braided .017 or .030 halo for serving. I'm kinda thinking 14 with .017 for a next try. I'm putting that #4 nylon on the shelf for the time being.

Between the string breakthrough and everything I've learned in the last week about arrow building and bare shaft tuning I feel truly empowered and excited to get this bow zero'd in as my go to bow for Oct 1st opener in the magnificent Upper Peninsula!

Rob DiStefano

imo ...

to some, i'm preaching to the choir, to others, it's plain blaspheme, but do try an 8 strand padded loop hmpe dyneema bowstring and an appropriate sized spectra (halo) center serving.  most all will never go back do dacron ... just saying ....

Hi Rob, I hope you know I do appreciate your opinion and hold it in high regard.

Neither of the local shops had D97 in stock today, so I've gotta order that. As long as I'm making a few strings for practice/learning I would hope I could get them to shoot. Part of the learning process in my mind. As a side note, I can't believe how nice that first string turned out, as nice or nicer than any I've ever purchased.

I'm worried about going all the way back down to 8 strand as that is where my numb fingers started. I'll probably give it a try since it's so cheap and easy once you have the supplies and know how to make strings, but it will be several days before the D97 material arrives here anyway.
