Darren, That is most certainly the in-stock bow that was listed.  I was a little concerned when they couldn't dig it up (Bob, certainly hope you didn't have it set aside) When I called they had to dig abit, could come up with Koa and Brown, in the 55# and Koa in Black in the 45#.... I love the look of Koa, spent 6 years in Hawaii and have always loved that wood, the right pieces have such an amazing depth. I will most certainly post pictures when she gets here.

ONE OF THESE DAYS I am going to take traditional bowhunting pictures as good as Nate does. He's got the Mojo!

Man, if I was a compounder, just one of those pictures of Nate shooting his bow would end the compounding days forever.

Now. . . if we can just get him to pose in some nice, plaid orange golf pants, we will have a real masterpiece.

(Double Dog Dare Ya)

-----Ha, that will keep him busy for a week or so, meanwhile I will be in the elk mountains chasing the big guys and those Oh-So-tasty grouse. My strategy is working perfectly. I will have 10 grouse photos by the time he realizes what has happened.

Nate Steen .

Rik,

I only wish I could aspire to be as great an elk hunter as you,  on grouse and deer we're on level ground, although you are much handsomer anyway.  I have to work for my grouse, you just talk them into giving up... :)

you got me thinking about the pants...hhhmmmm

no elk talk where I was,  all quiet. but then I only walked up one mountain before I gave up.  Fever, chills, full body aches, dehydration....not good elk mojo.  but the season is young, the pockets are full of tags, and the longbow needs to be bloodied.

And I got to see my buddy shoot his first bow-deer and have it die 30 yards from me in full flight.  I think my buddy goes to Rik's  "Camoflage and Pack School for Diehard Hunters"

Nate Steen .

mbugland....

going back to one of your earlier posts about drawing 30".....I'm 6'2.5" and you can see in the photo above that I'm not cramped, my head isn't sticking forward, I'm not leaning way forward, my bow arm is comfortable bent and I pull to the head....27"....and my wingspan is 6'5" and I have a large chest.  If i were you,  I'd seriously check your draw when comfortably shooting, not drawing the bow in front of a mirror or something else.....check the draw when shooting at something, fluidly and naturally and that is your draw...like it or not.

mbugland

I can see that. I certainly doubt I have a true30" draw, as I originally thought. After reading everything I will be impressed if I'm getting 28 out of the HH. I would say is a whole new world going from a wheel to a stick bow.... but I guess it more like back to reallity. I can't wait to get back into the woods with this bow.

"If you are a compound archer starting off in trad archery, be aware of two important things - (1) your draw length may shorten, particularly if you're going from a release aid to fingers, and (2) the holding weight of a compound can be between 25% and 90% of the compound's rated weight at your draw length and you must take that into serious consideration! If your current compound is rated at 65#, you could easily be holding 25# at full draw, and if that is the case you may have difficulty holding even a 45# stick bow at anchor! You should be able to hold your stick bow at full draw for at least a few seconds without serious shaking! Try before you buy!"

This style is smooth, fluid, casual, relaxed.  It is the opposite of static, rigid, set and extended.

I like that analogy...

It's nice to not have to go into the woods with allen wrenches and range finders, or even to the target range with a large toolbox.

Nate, hope you get feeling better soon. There was no activity where I was hunting either. It was hotter than blue blazes, but they were coming out at night in droves, so if the weather finally changes and cools down, I think the fun will start. I did hear one bull bugle one time from his bed way down in a dark canyon, at 11:30 a.m.

Last night I put some stout ash arrows in the quiver on my bow, and had so much fun shooting that I shot until well after dark, shooting by the light of the moon. Any of you guys ever notice how much fun it is to shoot a longbow?

I have a little over a week before season opens but your pictures make me want to start the hunt early..lol

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the update Rik!

It's been HOT in WA as well and the elk are literally hangin' in the swamp - LOADED with mosquitoes....

With one day to go, I grow more useless by the moment.

My hair has grown kinda long and shaggy. I'm not shaving much, I'm a bit rough around the edges, and may soon be bugling in my sleep like my dad does. I wander around aimlessly with memories of the high country filling my brain, and pictures like this talking to my soul. . .

Rob(The Great Mod.)-

I have a question; is there somewhere on the front this thread that we can list all of our brothers and sisters names that are interested in Hill and Hill bows. Kinda like a contact list.

Rik,

you've gone all out this season....is that cresting I see on your arrows?  man, what flair, what coolness factor!

Rik

Why Nate, I am glad you noticed my exceptional artistry.

----- Note for the rest of you:  Nate is teasing me because my arrows are always designed for one thing—to kill. I don't make fancy looking arrows, but I do shoot the straightest arrows in North America. I buy them by the hundreds so I can sort them for perfection. It costs a little bit more, but is well worth it.

BUT, for him to tease me about my sorry looking arrows in public is, well, a clear sign that he NEEDS TO GET INTO THE ELK WOODS IMMEDIATELY, if not sooner.

The only thing I have to say in defense of my sorry looking, non-flashy arrows is, well, they do fly sooooooooooooooooo well.

Nate----get thy butt to the mountains!
