firstly, that's a beautiful pic!

nope, didn't work.  i downloaded the image and checked it out.  it's far too large in image size, 192k - most folks don't understand the need for image compression.  i resaved the file at 50% compression and the image became 49k and looks every bit as good as it was when nearly 4x as large.  compression makes the image load and view much faster.

then i uploaded it to my photobucket ...

i clicked on the 'edit' menu item ...

in the menu editor, i saw the width as 800 ...

so i changed that to 640 ...

went down to the bottom of the page and clicked on 'replace original' ...

now i went back to the album page of all my archery images and copied the image code ...
and pasted it in your post ...

if you right click on any image, you'll see it's size listed.

I have an interesting dilemma.

All summer I have been practicing barebow-----no quiver attached to my bow. I was feeling pretty good about my shooting, and decided to hunt elk for the first time without a bow quiver. As you guys know, for me, that was a major decision.

Well, my wife, who is one of those rare individuals who never has to practice to be a good shot, started shooting with me about three weeks ago, getting her bow muscles ready for elk season.

In our 21 years of marriage, she has never beat me in shooting. In many 3-D shoots though, she has been ahead of me in score at lunch time, but I have always pulled ahead to make sure she does not beat me (my friends would have way too much fun if she scored higher than me with her wimpy little 52-pound longbow----WAY too much fun).

Anyway, for the last three weeks she has out shot me every night.  She keeps asking why in the world I am planning on hunting without a bow quiver if I cannot shoot as well without it. I just kept trying.

Well, last night I got curious and, for the first time, put a quiver on my new Big Five. Results? You guessed it, my shooting increased right back to normal, and my poor wife got a schooling in good shooting .

I do like the idea of hunting with my new Big Five bare bow and with my new Safari Tough Arrowmaster (which I really, really like), but man, I am feeling a strong urge to hunt with the setup that I shoot the best, and that means using a bow quiver.

I pack into the high country for 20 days on Friday-----------and I feel like The Darkside is calling my name. . .

Ray_G

Not THE dreaded dark side, Rik?    :biglaugh:

Good hunting, my friend!  Looking forward to your regaling of adventurous times.

Darren i just checked out your bow that you posted back in january.

Just awesome! It really has me cranked up to get mine.
I'm drinking from a saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed

Rik,
I wouldn't hesitate to whack that bowquiver back on the bow.
I have been playing with bow quivers again recently on my Hills and Hill style bows ... sure does steady them up !
Having said that,  my Arrowmaster is just so well built and thoght out construction wise, bow quiver or not,  it will be  close and handy whenever I am afield , hopeless stumper and breaker of arrows that I am .

Wait til after the season to start the real practice with the 'naked' Hill ... we'd all prefer to see pictures of elk tenderloin !!!

From the Darkside .....

Congrats Bob.... you said by the weekend? do they really ship that fast? I guess I have spent too much time in the desert and playing APO games, I called on Tues for my Wesley Special,(68"55#@28) it's now the pain of waiting.  Checking to make sure it's all real.  Saw the charges pending yesterday, logged in this AM to see the charges finalized in the bank.... and just waiting to see what that Koa Riser and Black satin lam look like together. If there are odds of actually getting that by the weekend, I better get that 'to do' list knocked out tomorrow.
Thanks all for the Hill Itch, all the insight of this thread, and the handful of PMs from very helpful folks.

Nate Steen .

Rob,

I didn't think about compressing it first...duh.  On my photobucket it said 640 x 480 so I thought it was ok.

thanks for helping out.

Rik....you can't expect 20 years of form to disappear w/ one month of practice....you need to give it some time, but maybe not while the season is going.....did you ever think the bowquiver was making up for an unsteady arm and hiding form flaws?  just kidding... :)

Okie man

You Idaho boys need to get up in the mountains and send back pics to us flatlanders. It's almost a month until deer season and I am getting seriously anxious to hit the woods with murderous intent and a Hill style bow in hand.
When the moment of truth arrives, the time for preparation has passed

tradlongbow

Mathew-

Did you pickup that in-stock Wesley with the Koa riser? I seen that bow listed last week, then I did a searched for Koa. That is a really nice piece of wood, your going to be real happy with that bow.

Mbugland,

Well I talked to Craig and he said for a bow that is in stock mailing to WI is like 2-3 days.  I got my order in late on Tuesday, so I figured it did not get packed and mailed until today.  So, (crossed fingers) I am hoping by Friday/Saturday it will be here.

Who knows ... I hate waiting, but I love having something to look forward to, so it is all good I guess.  If I ever get shooting that bow as well as my Twotracks Longwalker ... oh man I will be set!!!

Good Luck and post pics when you get her ... I almost bought that one!   ;)

here's a couple of shots in th woods.....sneaking up on a stump in the Rockies...

and ready to slay the stump!

Nate-

I love the second shot at full draw, it's very classic. The arc of the D-shape bow at full draw, the big orange feathers, the hat, and the plaid vest, it's all together. You must shop at the same place Howard and Fred shop at:^)
