It is a bobcat. The canines are nubbed off a little. That and a little wide angle picture distortion make them look big.Lynx actually have smaller canines than bobcats.A bobcat has to really get some age to have canines nubbed off like that.Older cat's canines are also thicker at the base. You don't often get to see cats that old.

Looks like a Bobcat to me. Also, I really enjoy the author of the book it is on, good stuff.

I'd have to aggree with some of the others, tom  bobcat. Either that or a saber tooth!!    :D    Those are some big snags!

Hope the link worked. I'm going with lynx, matches the teeth a lot better.
Yep, I think you just nailed it.

I would say a BIG, OLD tom bobcat. It would have to be BIG & OLD. But it could very well be a lynx. All of them are related!

Charlie, I just got the skull back from the taxidermist recently. It is definitely a feline. I'll look at my skull and see what the canines look like. I know they are big, but those are thick.

I'm not sure but maybe a Couger

My guess is bobcat as well. Those teeth may be loose, making them fall some and appear larger.

Here's some pics of one I have

I'm with JimB about the lynx. They have smaller, shorter  teeth than the bobcat... I've had both skulls here side by side.
Whichever it is, damn cool thing to find.

Looks like the teeth loosened in the palate/skull and you are seeing bases that normall would not be so evident, plus that might be a really old cat.....as Fireman said. Makes sense to me.

Bobcat or lynx depending or where it was found. Bobcat have 14 upper teeth, but I think Lynx do also.

IndianaBowman

Charlie, it looks very similar to the one I have here, but those are thicker. I think it is just a big old bobcat.

JimB

You don't see many really old bobcats.I've trapped them for about 30 years and have been mounting all kinds of cats for about as long.Canines grow from the base so they get thicker as they get older but most that you will ever see are more slender.A friend who is a retired government trapper commented the other day that you don't see many bobcats with badly worn canines.I agree.few get old enough.

The first two pictures exaggerate the size because the canines are closer to the camera and most cameras have wide angle lenses. When you look at the side view, the canines are more proportionate.I still think it was an old cat.

Massachusetts has no lynx and lynx don't have large canines like that.A pretty neat find.I don't remember ever finding a bobcat skull though fox and coyotes aren't to uncommon.

GREASEMAN

Bobcat maybe,but possibly a Lynx.
The canines are extremely large for a Bobcat or a Lynx

J.Williams

Big bobcat.Don't think lynx venture that far south in the northeast,do they?
