How many arrows do you lose or break in a year?

I'm becoming a better shot and randomly rendering the back of my arrows useless. I'm also trying longer shots and when I miss those babies turn to water vapor. Just curious what is a reasonably arrow allowance haha.

I have a lot of arrows. Kinda think it's better to have more than ya need then not enough. Anyway... I'm good at losing/breaking/bending about a two dozen a year. That's wood, carbon and aluminum combined. Much more went to The Arrow Gods when I was new to this Trad stuff.

On the plus side, building arrows is fun, and a brand spanking new batch of arrows is cool!  If we didn't lose and break them, what excuse would there be to build pretty new ones?   ;)

This is my first year, so I will let you know. Since last September, I think I broke or lost about 13. 3 were at Shawn Leonard's house that I didn't even shoot yet.  Thank God I lost the rest shooting.

I still Owe Ron W. an arrow too.

You're going to be dead a long time! I LOVE taking those far out shots I just KNOW will cost me an arrow! So what!      :jumper:

In answer to your question at LEAST a dozen or two are lost and replaced every year.

Well, I break each one several times. Don't know how to count that. All my regular shooters have been repaired at least once at the point end. Some of them have lasted three years or so in regular use.

That's Reparrows' reason for being!

Not as many as I use to - I guess I'm getting better  :)

I usually go through about a dozen per year.  I'm in the process of fletching 2 dozen douglas fir so I should be good for 2 years.

I've made several changes to my arrow setup and tactics that have drastically reduced my costs.  First, I switched to carbon.  The vast majority of my shooting is stumping.  With wood, I was breaking at least one every time I went.  I'd go through a dozen a month. I need them full length, so I could only get one retaper.

I broke a couple of my GT7595s on some rocks, but haven't since I footed them.  I primarily use AD Hammerheads and judos.  They are incredibly tough and the judo keep them from snaking under grass.

I have to say that my dog has saved me a couple of shafts that I thought I had no hope of finding.  If I take him with me, I do have to refletch a lot, though.  He likes to carry the arrows by the feathers and on long shots, he'll get there way before I can.

I also stopped shooting at the same spots on my targets.  That has saved my a bunch of nocks and feathers.

Basically, I've used the same 6 AD Hammerheads for several months now.  I have a few gt7595s that I rotate in. I have refletched them a bunch of times and some of them have nicks in the finish (thanks to the dog). Unless I get stupid and shoot where I know I'll lose one, they should be around for a while.

I shoot every day, for at least an hour.  I have no idea how many times I shoot, but it's a lot.  When stumping, I pick a spot, shoot, retrieve, then shoot a new target.  I try to imagine I'm shooting at a critter, so sometimes my targets are in tough places. Bright fletching helps finding them, too.

I will say that if I shot 3D, I'm sure I'd lose a heck of lot of arrows.

I lose, break or damage beyond repair around a dozen or so a year. I shoot just about every day and shoot carbon and aluminum.

You guys aren't stump shooting enough!

I kept track in 2007 and lost or completely destroyed 142 arrows. I was layed off part of that year and shot a lot of stumps and groundhogs.

I was back to full time work in 2008 and my total was only 72.

Then I set up a feed sack course in my woods and don't shoot stumps nearly as often. My arrows last a long time now. I only ever counted those two years. Last year was probably just a few dozen lost or destroyed.

If I go squirrel hunting and get in a good spot, I can loose a dozen+ arrows in an afternoon!  I really don't count those as lost, more like a donation to the hunting gods.  3-D and targets, maybe a dozen or so each year.  I buy up all those large oddball lots of old wood arrows, refletch them, repoint them and go small game hunting.  I have a couple of large basket quivers that hold two dozen arrows with small game points with a couple of broadheads.  Bill

I go through about a Dozen in lost, or broken arras a year, sometime I'll get lucky & I'll find one I had lost the year prior but mostly I plan for a dozen.
