Ulfrotte itches and the zippers dig into my neck. I prefer Smartwool.

Bought some merino wool from Cab-las and not very good, might as well wear sweatpants. I'm with Doug77 Justin Charles

A friend of mine has the Justin Charles! it's nice stuff but man it's expensive! I would like to find some for a little cheaper! I know you get what you pay for but there's got to be some for a liitle less! Thank's, Jason

Problem Child

I bought a pair of "Thermawool" from Campmor. The tops and bottoms were $30 each. I'm on my second year with them and they seem great. No itch and no stink.I don't own a pair of Woolpowers so I can't really compare them.
"Right Wing Extremists"....has a nice ring to it don't it?

Here is my take on ?Smartwool cost. You will buy them once. I have their socks and they outlasted any I have ever owned bar none. They also performed better for the duration.
I have their bottoms and see no reason why they won't last me the rest of my usable hunting lifetime-ie by the time I can't walk they might be ready to retire too. So 30 years. Unless I do something stupid and throw them in the dryer after every wash.
The details are why they are more expensive- better seams, better waist band by far than duofold and better wools.
Sure they cost, but every time you use them you will be thinking "Wow glad I got these".

I've got some Terramar merino, about half the cost of Smartwool and works every bit as well.   I rarely use synthetic as a base layer now.  100 million sheep can't be wrong!

Hot Hap

I've got the Terramar also. I really like them, but was sad to see they are made in China. Hap

Don't tell me how far you shot ... tell me how close you got.

I just used the Ulfrotte set from 3R for the first time yesterday. I'm very pleased so far. It's my first set of merino wool so I can't compare but I like these.

Woolpower is fantastic stuff. Buy it once and you'll have it a very long time unless you grow out of it. LOL

I've found the best layering system for when my Michigan weather turns brisk is UA Cold Gear against the skin and then Woolpower over that.

Thanks for this discussion.  After spending two very chilly evenings in the stand underclothed I just ordered some Woolpower.  Will add my impressions once they get a test.
