I think you may be right about prepping the shaft.  I use lacquer thinner to clean the shaft first.  Now I just started using the tape and I'll have to see how the cold weather affects it.

I had AD trads that had been fletched with tape and never had a problem hot or cold! I shot the same arrows for over a year and hunted the late season without any trouble. I've been shooting 2117 with wraps and tape and no trouble! I use lacquer thinner on the shaft, roll on the wrap and stick the fletching ,little dab of glue and no prob's!! I only use denatured alcohol, heck I don't even have anything else in the shop. Like I said, it could be my tape was old, I can't even remember when I bought it.

For woodies I fletch immediately after the poly has cured.I use acetone on bare aluminum and carbon shafts and dish soap and hot water over wraps and have had no issuses with the tape.I love the stuff,and I was probably the most skeptical of all about it.

I used denatured alcohol, they still came off when it got cold, glue works better, platinum on the carbons and duco on wood!!!

I also run my fingernail down the side of the feather on the quill edge and apply pressure against it, pushing it onto the arrow better to assure a good adhesion. Is everyone else doin' this also?

How many brands of fletch tape are there? The only one I know of is Bohning.

I just pulled an arrow out of my target butt that almost passed through. The feathers were soaked and matted after 3 days of rain. Rather than steaming them I stripped them off to re-fletch. I had to use a razor to get all the tape off. I'm a true believer now.
