Ken, as the others have said, Welcome to Illinois!  Although I think you went from one extreme to the other, so to speak.  Hopefully the UBI will interest you.  We are always looking for more quality members.  Our banquet is in Springfield during the last weekend of next February.  I hope you are able to attend.  I always like to hear Alaska experiences.  I have some property outside of Wasilla, but don't know if I'll ever live there, yet.
Matt S., I'm glad you are considering the UBI.  When are we gonna get together to shoot?

Many Arrows Lost has a point.  Sometimes a place can be great to visit at the right time of the year, but the rest of the year can be hard living.

ND has some decent outdoor opportunities, but you need to deal with the 1&1/2 months of sub zero temperatures and seeing snow for 4-5 months straight, then there's the crazy amount of mosquitoes in the summer.  Those who love the outdoors and whatever it brings will love those places, but it's not for everyone.

Ken welcome to Illinois I live around 90 miles west of Springfield. Several state parks to hunt in my area with a good deer population. Most of private land in my area is leased out to Outfitters. Also you are coming to prime Osage country. Good Osage grows around the Springfield area. Dean

Welcome to Illinois! I grew up in Macomb which is about 90 min. Northwest of Springfield. I spent quite a bit of time in Springfield and like the area a lot. I now live in Southern Illinois and like it even more. Good luck this season!
