Many Arrows Lost

It seems incredible when I think about it but I have not posted anything here in a couple years.  I have popped in from time to time to read a bit, and it is good to see that things really have not changed much here on Tradgang and it is still the great atmospere tradfolk are drawn to.

Through a long and interesting chain of events over the past year I have moved to the Springfield, IL area.  I arrived three days ago with my family and am working out the details on a home in the Athens area.  I am excited about the prospects of hunting whitetails again after 23 years in Alaska.  I am hoping that there are some Tradgangers in the area to powwow with.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Ken,

You are in a lovely area with a lot of whitetails and turkeys.  I am in Springfield on business occasionally and find the community to have many benefits.
Good luck on your transition and let us know when you get your first IL whitetail!

Claudia,

It seems to be a great area!  I was about 1/2 mile from my prospective new home last evening and saw 3 really nice buck with several doe.  Got the blood boiling for sure!

Thanks,

Welcome to Illinois, Ken.  I'm south of you just a bit, on the SE side of Spfld, and work at the airport, which is NW.  There is a good club not very far from you just south of Petersburg, Menard Archers, with a few stickbow shooters.  Shoot me an e-mail and we'll get on each others list.

Where in AK did you live? I was in Wasilla for seven years and am now back in Texas. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Alaska!

Ken,
You may want to look at the United Bowhunters of Illinois wesbite:  www.unitedbowhuntersofillinois.org
Lots of good people there. Make sure you look at the flyer for the 09 banquet, it will be in Springfield. As a matter of fact, UBI members are manning a free kids archery range today and tomorrow at the state fair in Springfield.  Stop in and introduce yourself.  We are also planning a whitetail hunt in October very near you at Jim Edgar State Park.

For the last 11 years I lived in the Fairbanks area. Before that, various places around the state.  For some odd reason I was really dreading another winter, the last two seemed to take there toll on me.  Minus 50 and darkness has lost its appeal, I guess.  The summers were nice and there is a certain feeling of independance prevalant living there, but it was time to go.

I'm going to do my best to get over to the Fair this afternoon and meet some of you.  Thanks for the warm welcome!

Welcome to Illinois! I'm up north of Springfield about an hour. I would reccomend checking out the UBI link that jered 203 posted if you're serious about bowhunting. Not a member yet but looks like a stand up group of guys. Best of luck this winter and hope you enjoy our sticky hot summers here... hehe.
