I'm going to post some pictures on Monday! I just received the foam core limbs in 45#@28". I have some Carbon Express Heritage 150s that I want to tune up for these limbs. What do you think as far as possible length and tip weight? How about spine weight for POC?

I had to work today. Had an appt. on the coast. I had the bow in the truck with some 2018s and just couldn't help but shoot it on the way back...even though the 2018s were to much arrow for it. So, I pulled over at a rest stop and found a trail going back into the woods. Found a dirt bank and had some fun for 15 mins. Pretty smooth limbs. Won't really know what they are capable of until I make some arrows for them.

Ask Bob. I think he uses Carbon Expresses. I dunno carbons...they all look alike to me.   ;)

You've got me there; I could never get 150's to shoot.  They always showed underspined, even out of 45lb bows.  They are supposed to spine about like 2016's, but 2016's shoot for me and 150's won't.  Go figure.

Glad to see you got it back!!! Let us know how you think the foam limbs compare to the 'boo ones. How's the pinecone working out for you? Mine feels great now, after a few weeks of shooting.

The 150's will be way to stiff for that bow, if ya do not draw over 28"s ya could get soem of the  CE 90s and they may fly. If ya want the 150's to fly you would need to leave them real long. I would say 31"s and 275 to 325 wuld be a good starting point, ya may be able to cut them back some and shoot that 325 up front. Diamond Paul must have got a bad batch of the 150's as 99% of the people I know who shoot them, shoot them form 51-56# bows cut anywhere from 28.5"s to 32"s witha minium of 175 grains up front. I myself shoot them out of a 56# Schafer and a 54# Arroyo cut to 29.5"s with 175 grains up front. Shawn

So, these 150s are going to match up with the 55#@28" recurve then.

axis 500's cut to 29" with standard inserts and 200 grain tips work good for me with all my high performance bows at that weight (45-46 lbs)

Snag, just for reference...I shot a full lenght 150 out of my Widow, 50@27 (drawn to 27"). With 145 gr point it was just barely underspined----at full length. I think the 90's would be the ticket for your 45# limbs.  I'm shooting the CX Heritages (basically the same shaft), and love them.

snag

I'll bare shaft these 150s and see if they will work with these limbs. They are equivalent to a 64# spined wood arrow. I thought with a modern recurve that is center cut 20# over bow weight would work fine.

I think Larry has the arrow you are looking for....

I agree with Larry and JC-------

Those Axis shafts sure work well for me, bareshaft perfectly and the arrows fly like darts. You might want to give 'em a try!

The spine chart at Rose City says the CE 150s translate to 54# spine at .487, the Axis is .500 = 52# spine.  With only 2# difference and shooting out of a modern recurve, cut to center, with FF string I would think these CE 150 would be pretty close....? We'll see.

Shawn, I have tried them dozens of times (as well as Gold Tips).  With 125 up front, at 29.5", they hit the target sideways left out of any bow I've ever shot them out of, and I need an arrow even longer than that.  My buddy, who doesn't even draw 28", has had the same experiences with them.  They should shoot, but show tremendously underspined.  A 2016 at 29.75 with 175 up front bareshafts perfectly out of my 45lb Wes Wallace recurve.  Like I said, can't figure it out.

Ok, here is the results. 45#@28" Cheyenne, CE 150s cut to 28 1/2" w/ 145gr tips shooting slightly weak! I started at 30" and cut 1/2" off...still weak, cut 1/4" off at a time until I got to 28.5". I would have never thought this after what some have said. I was sure I would need a lot more weight up front. I tried 175gr. tips at this length and they shoot 4"-5" weak. Went to the 145gr. and they are shooting 1" weak. These were going to be target/ tournament arrows. So, the lower tip weight is fine. Quite a surprise though.

I'm currently tuning some 30" Heritage 150's to my 45# Martin Saber.  I draw about 27.5" or a bit less and am shooting a dacron string.

As of right now, it looks like they will tune in with 200 grains up front.  My guess is you will be able to make them work fine.

I think I could shoot the CE250s with 200+gr. up front with this 45# bow.

Apex Predator

My cut to center 47@27 recurve shoots 28" 150s with standard insert and 200 grain point.  My 44-48@27 not-center bows shoot 29" 150s with 100 grain insert and 250 grain points.  I like very heavy arrows out of these light bows.  I shoot 20 yards or less.

snag,

I agree with you on the CE250's (they may need to be left a bit longer).  Given the centershot riser, ff type string, and efficiency of those limbs, it doesn't surprise me.

*By tuning I am refering to the bareshaft planning method outlined on OL's web page.
