Mate , I think it is because , in the best way possible , and probably not ever really explainable except to those who " know " ... we ain't quite right in the head .

Rik... Once you take in that air that nobody else is breathing you'll remember why we do it the hard way!!  :archer:

That tears it! I'm ordering one of these and some wood arrows to go with it......

Now for the fun part.  Trying to figure out what model to get, what options, how to customize, etc, etc.

And once you announce this we're all gonna bug you about it until we see pics.   :campfire:

Hey on Jan. 7th 2012 when this thread is a year old I'm going to take my Hill out and launch an arrow into the ding weeds to celebrate   :archer2:

Well that's the order in. 68 inch Wesley Special pulling 45@28 plus a dozen wood arrows (6 field points and 6 broadheads). Went with a lower weight bow as my first entry to the Hill World so I don't have to fight while I'm working on any form adjustments. Craig feels it'll be fine for whitetails and my d/r longbows are still there for moose and bear. Can't wait til it arrives!!!

....and now for the pleasant time between ordering the bow and the inevitable domestic when the wife finds out......

Well, Rossco, you've got about 3 or 4 weeks to pick your perfect moment to tell her.  I look for one of three openings:

1) She's in such a good mood that it gets approval.  Kind of tricky...
2) She's already so pissed off at me that throwing a little more on the fire doesn't make much difference.
3) She's drunk.

Good luck!

I still haven't found the right opening for the last bow I bought.  So far it's been blending in with the others.

Another trick: Buy two bows at a time (with permission for one), so that if she sees you with one, she thinks nothing of it.

45@ 28 is a good weight for me, that's what I'm going to order for poundage on my next.

HillGang-

I've been searching the internet for Hill articles, and I came across another very cool article about Howard in (Popular Science Magazine from December 1935). I can't copy and paste it, and this article is much longer than the last one that I found, so I won't be able to retype it. I'm going to paste the link, I hope you enjoy it.

what you gents are looking at is a rare Pete George "White Eagle" bow made in 1995.  It is one of only 4 that he made that is all bamboo no glass, and to my knowledge the second to last bow that he ever made......Priceless.

One of the beautiful benefits of this thread has been the coming together of people around the country/world and sharing of info and equipment.  I obtained this bow (on lease) from Rod Cameron and it is in pristine condition.  He had never shot any big game with it and when I first laid eyes on it, it screamed..."take me huntin'"....so I did.  I matched some arrows (beautifully made by Don Myers of Oregon) to the bow and managed a morning away from work last weekend to see what I could do in the canyon country of southern Idaho.  (eat your heart out Rik,  I've been hunting muleys all along... :)  )  I stalked a real nice 3 pt muley in his bed to 20 yards and then made too much noise and he stood up and I missed a chance at a shot....so I bedded down behind a sagebrush and waited.  When he couldn't discern my shape, he came closer until he was about 10 yards away.  I waited for him to look the other way for a slam dunk shot.  I already had 'hero pics' in my mind and blood on the bow when the wind swirled slightly and poof he left.  If I would've had my regular bow, I'd have taken the slowly moving 15 yard shot, but I had only shot this bow a few times to get the feel of the accuracy level and wasn't comfortable with the shot oportunity.  sooo,  the bow bloodying will have to wait another day....  Can't wait to see what adventures me and ol' Pete's White Eagle will have before the bow gets sent back to Pennsylvania....

I'm enjoying all the information and photos that people are sharing in this thread; thanks!!!

I pity you fellas having problems with your wives regarding your need to have more bows; thankfully I can build my own.    :biglaugh:

Rob-

Thanks for posting, I couldn't figure out how to post the article.

I liked that also, 300fps. Also, what I thought was interesting back then was that Hill mentioned he would over shoot on the first arrow, under shoot on the second arrow, adjust his arrow, and hit on the third arrow. He even mentions that the arrow hit the neck of the animal bring the animal down, and he would take some very long shoots.
