The story within the story is better than any successful kill you may have had as much as you wanted them.

You were there for an entirely different purpose, unbeknownst to you at the time.  Only time will tell what comes out of your act of love  

Sounds like the young man gets along with that bow very well, in a very short time.

I had a turkey disappear for a short while once, a bobcat found it and buried it in leaves.

Good luck next year. Try to show up around this time of year, it seem as December 15 is when the magic begins down South.
