Its been about 5 years since I ordered a brand new bow, not bad eh? Well its been long enough and being bitten by the Silver Tip bug, worst than ever I finally sent Beth a check.

I teetered between a 1 piece recurve and a 3 piece long bow. At this time Ive decided on a 3 piece LB, a serious hunting bow. My riser will be charcoal dymondwood with an arched accent stripe, old school checkering as my recurve has with rough sheep horn tips.

My predicament is that I can't decide on veneers. Im feeling like the search for the right veneer will be a hunt in itself, a quest for something that takes my breath away.

Some things Ive picture in my mind are green stained tamo ash, gnarly cocobolo, spalted maple, b&w ebony, juniper, yew with heart wood, exhibition koa or sapelle pomelle. A lot of different characteristics, I know but Im gonna have fun with this.

The list is only partial and if any of you have something to show or suggest, please have at it. Id like to see some pics of your most unique veneers. Im leaning toward a reddish hue along the lines of cocobolo but Im open to suggestions.

    Thanks, Izzy

Last time I had a  bow on order, I enjoyed looking at Idaho Curt's website and Troy Breeding's wood vault.

Have fun with it and good luck, I'm sure your new bow will be a  beauty!

Izzy,  Beth posted a picture of a 3 piece longbow shortly after Dave started building them. It had quilted maple limbs that were stained charcoal, I REALLY wish I would have bought that bow. One of the most beautiful bows I've ever seen!  It still haunts me. Wish I still had a picture to post.

Thanks Charlie, seems that Curts website is sold out.

And Bull, Ive seen that bow and I love it. If that all gray bow was my idea I think Id be settled on that. Its classy for sure.

The quilted maple does take a nice stain done in charcoal. So does tiger maple. If you can hunt down a piece that has a lot of character that would look really nice.I have had a few bows done with the charcoal stained veneers and they looked really stealthy and handsome with some black in the tip overlays

I really like the Schafer charcoal diamondwood risers

IZZY,
If you would like to see some pics of my 2 Schafer longbows ( or my silvertip)  to see the wood combos, shoot me a text. Will getum up for you this afternoon. Got the checkering, flares and horn tips and overlays    :wavey:

Congratulations on your order, exciting times.  The hard part for me was to try to forget about it over the wait time

Did you say SPALTED MAPLE!  :D    I love that stuff

Izzy

I have a spalted maple Griffin that is one of my favorites but dang its hard to come across. Mine looks like b&w ebony, what I want for this bow need to have some reds in it. I've seen spalted pacific maple with lots of red but damned if I can find a good piece now.

Izzy,

You will love the 3-piece longbow.  I have a very plain one with the charcoal riser with a rosewood flair and black glass limbs, 50# @ 28 and 55# @ 28.  As much as I love the recurves, this bow has become my go to.

I also picked up a 60# @ 28 from Felix that I have in Montana being checkered right now.  I can't wait to get my hands on that elk killer.

Izzy, if I have time tonight I will send you a pic or two of my favorite bows. A couple have done stunning  wood grain- at both ends of the spectrum, light and dark.

The one I sold to Dave is really a hard shooter, quiet and forgiving.. I am sure Dave could also kill a water buffalo with that beast.
