Hello everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Tim, I'm 30 years old and live in southwest Virginia. Here'sy story of how I got here.

I have hunted with a compound for close to 15 years. Late last year, I had my eye on a new Matthews. I have a nice compound, but just had my heart set on a new bow. When the wife heard the price tag it really didn't go over too well. Especially since there was no real need for it. Her brother has been shooting recurves for years, and I got interested around thanksgiving. So the wife got me a samick sage T/D 45# for my birthday. I have been shooting almost every day (weather permitting). My main goal is to be able to whitetail hunt with a recurve. I am working on joining the local archery club as I have heard there are some traditional shooters there. My main problem is I don't know anyone who is really experienced. It is hard to find any gear locally. I have spent a lot of time on the Internet reading and watching videos. After browsing y'all's site past midnightast night, I figured I would join. I have already found some great info, and am working on the homemade whiskers this morning.

Anyways just wanted to say hey and hope to learn/share the sport with everyone.

Also I find the respect code a breath of fresh air. Internet forums can be a cruel nasty place.

Welcome and enjoy the journey.  This is a great place to learn, and meet people.  I am sure there are some members from your area, hopefully they will notice this post and chime in.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Welcome.  This is a good resource.

Don't compare your shooting of a recurve with that of your compound.  This is a new game.

Do your self a favor.  When deer season rolls around, don't second guess.  You will never kill a deer with a stick if you are carrying a compound.

If you can only shoot 10 yards accurately by then, only hunt for ten yard shots, but hunt.  Hunt smarter, not farther.

Learn that it is, indeed a journey with milestones along the way that need to be seen and savored and enjoyed.

Have a great journey.

You might consider coming to the S.T.A.R. shoot near Roanoke in June. It is two days of all trad shooters  having a good time and lots of laughter-especially seeing me shoot. But seriously, good people and great courses: 3d,paper,tough man and usually novelty shoots of some kind. Well worth exploring with semi primitive camping available. Check the Trad Events here for dates. Have fun with your new bow, know it won't stay with one.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

Joining TG is only the beginning of this remarkable journey. As the traditional affliction heats up, you may find yourself ever deeper entrenched within the comforting family of Trad Gang.
