I know the place. I used to hunt in Pulaski every year for about 6 years. Awesome hunting in the mountains.

Your story sounds very familiar. I had that nice Matthews bow. Got it dialed in like a rifle. Never missed its mark. And it was just sitting in the case. For me I had a sort of awakening as you speak of when I realized that bow had taken the "earned skill" out of archery with all the high tech stuff. The bow did the work. I sold it. Never looked back. Took a few months to get consistant, and after a few years to get very accurate most of the time. If this bug bites you good.....You will be into this for a long, long, time. I hope it does. Welcome.  rat'

Tim,
...and yet another welcome from Michigan.

There are many here that can echo your path to Traditional Bowhunting.

Lookin' forward to your sharing of many adventures afield.

Tom

Tim,
If you're from Salem STAR is in your backyard, try not to miss it. Sherwood Archers-quite a few stick shooter there and a grand place to shoot. Welcome from the mid Valley.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Cool--welcome to the addiction!

A couple of suggestions, if I may.

First, the Sage is a great bow.  It does need a string upgrade though--the one that comes with it isn't so great.  It does make a difference.

Second (maybe this should be first), get a copy of "Masters of the Barebow, Volume III".  Worth it's weight in gold.  Even better, if you hear of a Rod Jenkins clinic in your area, take it.  You won't be sorry.

Good luck!

Chad
