Your shot was very similar to what happened to me this year, I hit my buck in the same area, that is just part of hunting. Great job! and good story!

Sorry about the long story.

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there...

Good job, you made the right decision and made the best of less than perfect circumstances.

hill boy

If the deer is dead and recovered in a timely manner it is indeed a perfect shot!!!
Your best shot is only as good as your next one!

You did all the right things in that you: Learned from your mistake.  You did everything possible to recover your animal and you candidly admit to everything.  Congratulations!  I wish more people would do this (especially the non-trad hunters).

Thanks for the kind words.  It felt like I was typing a book when I posted it.  As far as being honest.  I just wanted to tell the truth and I hope someone can learn from it.  As the deer was in the bed, he stopped bleeding.  When we jumped him, I fould blood clots.  I told my wife, this is a good sign because he will start bleeding again.  The Snuffer did the job.  I never looked down for blood if you know what I mean.  I was lucky because I did not hit the bone.  There was mass trama to say the least.

Made a gut shot on a doe that jumped my string today. It is a bad feeling to put a bad shot on one but great job in persistance. I am very fortunate to have a very good blood dog and recovered my doe today as well.
