Hey all,

About 2 months ago I bought a Thunderhorn bow quiver because I knew I was going to need one when I went hog hunting here in Texas.  Lots of people told me that a bow quiver would be the best way to go.  This one I got is in great shape and is the plain black model that holds 6 arrows like all the bigger Thunderhorn quivers I saw on their site.

I had no idea how heavy it was going to be when I put it on my bow.  The first one I tried it on was my 1971 Grizzly.  I didn't put any arrows in it and I could easily feel the big difference in the weight and balance of the bow.  It surprised me how heavy it made my bow.  I can only imagine how it will be when I put 5 arrows in it.

Now I am thinking that I don't want to totally abandon the bow quiver just yet, but I need to find something lighter.  The only ones I know of that are bow quivers that will fit on both longbows and recurves AND are not priced really HIGH, are the Eagles Flight Archery and the BIG JIMS quivers.  I have never handled either.  I thought I would ask you guys about which one would be the lightest and still allow me to carry 4 arrows.

I don't want or need anything fancy.  I also would like to keep the cost as low as possible too.
I don't know how often any of these quivers by these 2 companies comes up USED, but I would be fine with a USED quiver.  Heck, I'd rather just trade my 6 arrow Thunderhorn for one or at least towards one.

If I can't find a suitable quiver for my bows, I will probably seek out some kind of hip or belt quiver to use and just leave my bow nekkid, if you get my drift.  I much prefer a bow without anything on it anyway.

So, what do you all think?  Anything you can recommend for me?

Rock 'N Bow

I would recommend the EFA mini. It is by far the lightest quiver I've used. I also have a Thunderhorn and there is a night and day difference between them.

Really glad to hear that especially since you own both of them....

It's looking an awful lot like I am going to try and get one of the EFA quivers and either sell or trade my Thunderhorn.
I want to hear about the BIG JIMS before I do anything or make any decisions though.  His quivers are really nice and I like the way they attach to the limbs.
Hopefully some owners will chime in here before too long and post their thoughts and details.

Thanks all.

I use EFA, Big Jim's, and Kanati depending on the bow. All 3 are very good products. The EFA is the lightest. Big Jim's quiver is not much heavier and is the quickest to mount and rock solid. Kanati quivers are Cadillac's and John makes a small light quiver also.

Look at the EFA, small Big Jim, and Kanati Hunter model, one of them should work for you.

I'm a bit of a quiver junkie - the EFA is absolutely the lightest and most compact.  The down fall is fletch clearance, you have to be very strategic to align your arrows to not have fletching contact.   The Kanati strap on is another light choice.

I've settled on the Great Northern as my go-to though.  Alignment, security, weight, etc....it's my favorite.

I have pretty much quit using bow quivers, but will admit to going back and forth on this issue.

I mostly just think it is easier to use a Safari Tuff Duiker but when I think I want to use a bow quiver, I use a Great Northern strap on.

But really, I think I could get used to just about any of them.  I have had a EFA, Big Jims,  Thunderhorn  Boa.  They are all good quivers, just have to practice with them on;  the weight of any of them was a non-factor to me.

oklahomaleatherman is making me up a 3 arrow version of his 2 lite bow quiver.  It can only carry two blade broadheads. I can not imagine a lighter bow quiver than what this will be.

I have an EFA mini that I love.  Quick, easy, helps quiet the bow and who need more than 4 arrows?

Biathlonman

Efa is definitely the light choice, I prefer the Thunderhorn small fry for its combination of features.

Recurve7

Like many above I too have a box full of unused quivers.  Each has their own merits. However, the Great Northern strap on has proved to be the best for me. Simple, rugged and detachable.
Hope this helps.

Not many of you know this but we are now offering a 3 or 4 arrow "mini" hood its approximately 30% smaller than the standard Selway hood, and is available in our rugged hand stitched rawhide, and I believe it weighs in at around 8 ounces depending on which attachment system you wanted. It is available in a slide on, strap-on, quick detach, flex, or limb bolt models.

I have both an EFA Navajo X with the wing and a Kanati pro angle kick back.  I love them both. The EFA is lighter, but the Kanati is very light as well.  I like the Kanati's design more, but thats just my opinion.

You must have the old mounting system on the Kanati.  It can't get any quicker than their new system. Easily on and off in under 10 second, literally.

That green insert looks great on that old Bear!

Thanks. John has done a couple of special color combos for me. That quiver looks good on my 62 Kodiak and green/black Futurewood Grizzly. Heck it looks good on everything  ;)

You said LIGHTEST.....EFA.

THAT is your answer.

I can't really see the mounting system, but in 2012, they changed to a new system.  I bought a used one from a guy on here that was the old one and it was not nearly as nice as the new system, imo.
