I am setting up plans to do my first ever bear hunt this September. We have a early September  gun season here. Although  you can substitute  a bow for a gun. It is a county I have never hunted  before but I have a friend/ coworker that used to work in that area. We are planning September. 20-23 .. looking forward to seeing some new territory and hopefully getting into Some black bear.  Plans aren't finalized yet but we will see how it goes.

Va. just separated out the bear tag from our license so it will cost another $20-gambit by the G&F dept. to get a few more bucks. I won't pay this as I have no taste for bear meat. But good luck with your hunt, they are fun to watch for sure.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Good luck,I've done it once or twice with no luck,it's tough going if you don't use dogs especially with no baiting.I have known a couple guys that killed them but usually they been killed while deer hunting..Hopefully you can find a good natural food source. But one things for sure, it'll be beautiful in the mountains in September..
