My 17 year old son will begin his long awaited quest this year for the Georgia Trad big 5.  This is the hunt for deer, bear, turkey, hog and alligator  all with trad gear and all from our home state.  He has taken all of these animal except the gator with the bow but his bears came from out of the state.

Attempting to do it in one year will be fun and a challenge but I think he is up to it. That boy really knows how to hunt hard.   The gator is the most difficult but only because of the wait for a tag which is 3-4 years.  He had enough points were that is a sure thing.  My gator zone is infested with the giant lizards.

I am excited to go along on this journey with him.  We may start this weekend with a hog and turkey is just over three weeks away.  I hope to record all the hunts on film so I have something to watch when I am an old man.

Good luck to everyone in the coming year. I hope all of you have a dream that you reach for.

Sounds great Jerry!  Wish him luck.  I've taken three of the five and may try for the turkey this year.  For some reason I never get a gator permit.  My club near Statesboro has a healthy population of them as well.

Good luck.  Looking forward to some of your video footage.

Too cool!  I wish him all the best.  It'll be great to watch the footage.

Good luck! A dream of mine has been what used to be called the "Triple Trophy" in PA way back in the day. Bear, Buck, and Turkey all in one season. I'm going to try and make it happen with a trad bow before I die.

The bear is easily the hardest part as the bear population in our state is not huge, and the season is only two weeks long.

Can't wait to see some of your footage, good luck!

The Georgia 5 has been in my head for days..... I've read for years about the African big five and the Alaskan big five but to be truthful neither are possible for a middle class guy to do....... Now that Georgia five..... I like the sound of that and we'll I loved Georgia when I visited years ago  :)

There are awesome adventures waiting for those that dare to dream.  Not everyone's budget will allow for Africa or Alaska.  The Georgia 5 is a prime example of a quest close to home that while VERY tough to pull off is possible and a fantastic adventure.
My son will hunt his bear in the rugged mountains of North Georgia.  He will chase hogs, deer and turkey in Central Georgia's Piedmont region and finish out with gator in the tidal marshes on the coast.
That is a ton of fun and adventure within 5 hours of home.  Most areas of the country have their own big 4 or 5 within reach.  All you got to do is dream it, set the goal and then go for it!
