I'm in the market for a new recurve this spring but I'm not sure if I should get a one piece or a take down model. The take downs seem to be more available from what I can find. What are your thoughts about the two types of bows?

What and where do you plan to hunt?  If any of it involves travel, the take-down version is a great idea.

Not to mention, if you decide to sell it, shipping is a whole lot easier.

All of my current shooters are takedowns.

I'll mostly be hunting whitetails close to home with the bow.  Are the take downs as quiet as a one piece bow?

Take downs are just as quiet.  Recommend going ILF as you can readily change risers and limbs as you desire.  Brian

I have both.  The take downs are easier to travel with, if you ever have the opportunity.  My take downs have more mass than my one pieces.  I would say find the bow you want. If it is a take down don't let it deter you.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

How many are you planning to buy...there are lots of choices...I have over 20 bows and last count only 5 were takedowns...what part of Ontario are you from...there are lots of knowledgable shooters in Ontario who would very likely let you try some of their equipment...there are lots of ways to buy bows in Canada to get away from our current low valued dollar

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

I prefer a one piece for hunting whitetails and small game but my T/D travels with me everywhere.

I have both, no preference other than I always take my TD's when I travel, esp by air.

I have had several of both, I have found the takedowns usually shoot a little better for me and seem easier to get quiet, I think its due to the increased mass weight of the take down . I have sold all my 1 pc bows.  im sure you are aware of the ease of weight changes and such with a take down, I rarely take my bow down but it would travel a lot easier.

This is a great question. I've got several take down bows & seldom take them down, but I don't do much long distance traveling & none on an airplane. One year I traveled over 3000 miles in a Toyota Camry packing a 64" one piece LB. I really wished for a takedown then.

If I were doing any flying a takedown would really shine. If you want to sell it it could be advantageous. Takedowns are usually a bit heavier mass weight than one piece bows & that may make them more stable for some?

Takedowns are the way to go!!!

I like a 3 piece takedown for the ease of transport, and because I shoot SO much better with the heavy mass in the riser. I own one pieces, two piece takedowns, and 3 piece takedowns, and the 3 piece takedowns just make a world of difference for me.

Might be something you need to shoot before you buy to find what fits you best though.

I'm going to the show in Kalamazoo this weekend so I might order something while I'm there. Time will tell I guess.

I agree with all above on the ease of travel and mass weight of the takedown.  I also probably shoot them better, but the lines of a one piece are hard to beat.  I have a one piece Silvertip on order and I can't wait for it to arrive.
