Last year I hunted the Kennym lease and was fortunate to harvest a special buck. Special because I had the opportunity to hunt with my bud Jacobsladder and finally meet Kenny. While I was out there Kenny gifted me a sweet piece of Cocobolo. The plan was to make it back out to Kenny's this year with Steve and joining us would be Jim Jones of Firefly Bows and Tim Harms of Braveheart Archery. That hunt was supposed to be over the past week but due to some unforeseen heath issues I had to back out at the last minute. Disappointed would be an understatement, after 58 years of not so much as a problem I finally realized I'm no longer "bullet proof".

Well I'd contacted Gregg Coffey of Java Man Bows about putting something together for me with that piece of Cocobolo that Kenny had given me. Over the years I've shot and owned many bows and over the past few years I've grown very fond of Gregg's bows. They always seem to be the bow of choice when I head to the woods. Gregg told me the current wait was right around a year or maybe a little less. So the week I'm supposed to be in Missouri I get a text from Gregg, he's getting close to starting my bow. Decided on a 60" Bowbolt Assyrian static recurve, Cocobolo riser with a black phenolic "I" beam, cross sawn stained bamboo lams under clear glass 51@30. Gregg's using the rack from the 7 point I took at Kenny's for limb tip overlays. Drove down to Gregg's yesterday and closed the deal, should be ready in a month or so. Can't wait.

The MOBOW !! LOL

The coco darkens quickly, wait til he shapes it and gets some finish on it! Not sure if there is UV resistant finish that will keep coco bright...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Shot a few bows down at Gregg's and fondled a few more. If you're heading to Kalamazoo for the Traditional Bowhunters Expo in January you'd better take your checkbook. He's going to have some real dandies there!

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

As a hunter a bow is a tool, and in some cases it's a work of art. There are a lot of memories connected to the bows I have. Great hunts, great friendships and fond memories of adventures past. This will be the first bow I have where the memories will be associated with the "birth" of the bow. Will be a special bow indeed!

Awesome.  Gregg's the man and will build you the bow of a lifetime.  I look forward to the next time I can have him build me a bow.  My 2pc Elkheart is my favorite bow I have ever had up to this point for overall balance of attributes as a hunting bow, and I have had some of the best.

Pics of that beauty are a must.  I'm very interested in his Assyrian.

That's exciting!  Keep the pics coming!
