What a weekend!  Great weather, great hunting companions and plenty of game sightings!   After shooting in a trade association sporting clays tournament Friday AM, I headed straight to my best bud's. Sam Lindamood, 400+ acre piece of hunting property in Stoke's County - just across the VA/NC line.

It's always a promising sign when I see multiple deer and turkeys on the mile long drive down his driveway.  As it was early, I unpacked my gear and went and hung a wicked wick with a trail camera positioned over it just off the edge of the lower corn field.

Then I got camoed up and headed out!  What a beautiful evening!

Just a little teaser......    :goldtooth:

I was hunting this time out with my Sasquatch SS static tip built last Winter by bro Kirk at Big Foot Bows - 57# @ 28" (I draw 29.5") - smokin' fast and smooth with either Gold Tip Trad 400's or Victory VAP 400's.  I had a mixture of razor sharp Steel Force Traditionals, Eclipse Werewolves and VPA 2-blade (all 300 grainers - love that EFOC     :knothead:     ) and lost 2 high dollar arrows in the process!

Here I am 2014 - the same field and once again, in my Hidden Hunter blind.  I was texting with my buddy, Ray Hammond, about some of his knives and the knife-making school he had just attending in Ashville, NC, when a nice doe steps in front of the blind and starts to feed.

I slowly picked up my bow, nocked a Gold Tip with a Steel Force Trad atop it, and when she fed broadside at about 13 yards, let it fly.  She dropped down at the shot and it went higher than i aimed, but in no time the line was buzzing out of the String Tracker.  A big shout out to Jerry Russell of Russell Outdoor Adventures for showing me how to properly set up a String Tracker      :notworthy:     !

In what seemed like just a couple seconds, the line went slack - either she was down, or the line and been snagged and cut by the thorns in the blowdown into which she had bolted.

I gathered my gear and walked up to where she had been standing.  About 5 yards away was my arrow - covered in blood - a passthrough and a double tracking line - one bloody, one clean!

Gotta go now to meet my bride for dinner.  I'll be back later!

I use a string tracker too, and love it. It is really cool watching the line peel out after the shot. Then when it stops, you wonder every time, "Did it break, or is he dead right over there?".

Can't wait to hear the rest!
