Who is hunting with a primitive set up this year?

Post pics of your rig.    :archer:   Let's try and can keep this thread going all season long and post primitive kills here too.

I'll get mine up as soon as I get home    :archer2:

I'm giving it a shot this year. I will not be able to get any photos up until this weekend. It is going to make for a good time, deer or no deer. Everything is flying great though so if I can get a deer to cooperate during the few days that I am going to get to hunt it could happen.

I expected more responses?  I, however, am not going primitive either regrettably...but feel I should, as I am passionate about the thought and do make selfbows.  I may still but will start the season modern traditional.

I respect those that do primitive, with the utmost!

I'll get things started

A bunch of points and a couple hunting arrows

This is one of the bows I'll be hunting with this year. She is "Lil Thumper", sinew backed osage static recurve with a diamondback water snake skin cover, 56" t/t, 56#@26".

Here are 3 hill cane arrows with two fletch, 2 traditional and one modern with my burn pattern, and stone points hafted with pitch glue and sinew. Fetching tied on with sinew and all sinew wraps waterproofed with pitch varnish.

I'll also be hunting with this bow. She's also sinew backed osage, 53" t/t, 56#@26". I used a coachwhip snake skin to cover the sinew.
Gary Davis gave me this "kids" bow stave(marked 35#) at the Tenn. Classic a few years ago and said, "Lets see what you can do with this".    :D
The arrows are poplar shafts I got from Charlie Jefferson(stringstretcher).

These arrows aren't very primitive but do have self nocks. One(not shown) I've added a homemade trade point made from a heavy bandsaw blade.

I am going to give it a go.  Just putting the final finish coats on my osage, 60", 38# longbow.  Made the arrow shafts out of pine, maple and cherry.  Using feathers from turkeys and geese shot here in Michigan and stone points.

If you think it's primitive post it. There's no primitive police here just a fun thread.

Pat those setups are really nice. I love the eastern two fletch it is simply awesome. The osage stave in my post is from Gary too. Although I didn't take a kids stave and turn it into a 56# hunting bow. That takes some serious skill    :clapper:

I always do but mix it with my other bows I take them all out at different times depending on mood

I shoot wood arrows but not made up with selfnocks or flint heads. I do hunt with bows I make. This years bow is an osage static, 64", between 55# and 60# at this point(still being shot in).

The fuzzy picture is of me and the bow at the Russ Dixon shoot at the Briarfield Iron Works. The way this bow shot at the tournament quickly made it my first choice for the upcoming bow season.

1970's is about as primitive as I get; but I get the attraction and I take my hat off  to you. Love those stone points.

I make it all but the knapped points. I don't knap but have many friends that do so I trade for points and blades.  I understand knapping and have read and studied it for years but I don't need another hobby. If I had to knap a point for emergency use I know I could.

I'm going primitive, but I've been sick in bed and haven't finished my setup.  I'll get some pictures up in a day or two.  I wish I could knap like you guys, mine is only just barely serviceable, hence my use of bone points.

First one on far left Nutterbutter blackwalnut backed with hickory will be going. Also third on right Little Hick stick, hickory board bow backed with goat rawhide. And I will also have along Death in the fall, a osage billet bow backed with rawhide

Arrows are hardwood footed poplar with homemade 3:1 tradepoints like the ones below. This antelope was  last season not this season.
