Hello everybody,
So I just bought a 1971 SK out of the classifieds and am trying to find the right arrows. So first up stats on the bow and myself. It is 53# at 28" and my draw length is 27". I would also like to use carbon arrows. Also of note, I am very new to this so if I am way off here that is why. It is a lot of information to take in.

On Stu's calculator I plugged in all the info and for the bow input I am getting 54.9 pounds. Now I am unsure of what to put for the strike plate thickness, it was set at 0.060. I looked up and the SK has a center cut of 0. Not sure what to put here exactly. But just playing with those numbers changes my pounds drastically.

So on to the arrow data- I selected GT 3555 Trad as those seem to be a pretty popular arrow. The BOP that is just about perfect for me is 28", so put that in as well as a 125g point. Now this is where I had to do some playing around and ended up with an insert weight of 80, nock weight of 10, and I prefer 3x4" feathers so left that. This gave me 55.9 pounds on the arrow spine with a total weight of 463g and a GPP of 9.3

I'd like to get some arrows ordered up as soon as possible but since I've no real clue as to what I'm doing I figured I would run it past the experts. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Sounds like you're pretty well on track.  I would suggest you call Big Jim's and run this past him, then have him build your arrows with the GT Blems he sells.

Your bow is on the way Alex -  dropped her at the PO today.

Sounds like you've got Stu's calculator figured out and that gives you a good place to start.  I would suggest leaving the shafts cut a little long to begin with.  You can always cut them shorter if needed,  but you'll never make them any longer!  A bit longer might let you get by with a lighter insert or point if you wanted as well.

Enjoy the bow!

I would guess and say that full length GT 35/55 would work well for you.

Hey thanks for the info on Big Jim, I am going to give him a call today. Joe thanks for shipping the bow out so fast, checked with the USPS and she will be here tomorrow. They are gonna hold her for me so I can pick her up first thing in the morning versus them delivering it. Also thats a good idea on the arrows, 28" is still pretty long for me but I will probably start with 28&1/2" though just to be safe.

Can someone please explain the strike plate thickness to me though? I still cannot find/figure out how that works exactly. Thank you.

Strike plate thickness is the thickness of any kind of rest/strikeplate/leather etc. that is against the sight window.

In other words how much space between the arrow shaft and the actual wood of the sight window ... Obviously the more you build out that sight window with leather and material etc., the farther from centershot the bow is.

I think you're on track with that setup.

for a 28" or 28.5" 3555, with a 125gr point ... I'd think you probably need a bit more weight up front that just 80gr insert.

Most guys I know shooting that shaft are shooting ful length with around 175gr point and standard 11gr. GT insert.

I'd try 28.5" gt3555 with the 100gr brass inserts (indestructable) and 125gr. point. That should be pretty close I think.
