limb tip repair

i have what i think is an older sovereign line ben pearson that draws currently 41@28 and is 62". it is in need of refinishing and has a crack in the limb tip and i was wondering if this bow is doomed or if its repairable. its less than an inch long, and it doesnt seem to be lifting the glass at all but id like to get more opinions on this...thanks in advance

I would say that bow both looks repairable and worth refinishing and repairing...nice looking bow and 62 inches is a good length...if you do some searching I am sure the Don Ward(aka bowdoc)has posted his way of making such a repair, plus some great refinishing ideas

i have searched but cant really find anything on how to fix it. i am hoping that some one with experience in this can chime in and maybe walk me through it...i would send it to the bowdoc or some other person, but right now i am tight on funds and cannot afford to send it away...i really like the grip and how it looks and feels; my only complaint is the 41# draw weight...for me its almost too light to hunt with..lol but other wise its got a very nice feel to it and just needs some tlc

Do a search for Restoration 101 in Trad History and Collecting section...it will take some reading but I am sure everything you need to know is there somewhere...as far as draw weight goes it can depend on your draw length...I would shoot that bow at about 31 inches which would result in 47 to 50 pounds

thank you. i did find it and took a read through it and it seems very possible for me to bring this bow back to life. my draw is right around 27-28" so unfortunately the draw weight wont increase...but i think 41# is still enough for chasin whitetail and similar sized game..hopefully...lol

I would repair the crack then install an underlay to stiffen the tips and bind it all together.

would a piece of thin fiberglass that goes all the way down the limbs to help reinforce everything?

Adding that much glass to the limbs would take you out of the repair and restoration world and into the world of laminated bow building...it all depends on how much skill you have now and what you are willing to learn...check out the Bowyers Bench section and maybe ask the same question there

gotchya well i will avoid that then as it is not necessary...i do ask for forgiveness in all the questions as i decide how to return this old bow back to life again. will backing this bow with snake skins cause an increase in poundage? this matters not because i am no longer worried about the weight but would love to have a snake skin bow. also what tip overlay material can be used to make ff compatible?
