Shaft Taper Tool?

I purchased a Woodchuck taper tool recently and I think it does a really good job on point and nock tapers. Several years ago, I seem to remember being told that this tool could also be used to barrel, breast, or end-taper wooden shafts. Is this true? Has anyone tried this? I would be very curious to learn how to go about it, if that is possible.

I may be wrong, but I don't see how the Woodchuck could be used for such a long taper like a back taper. Are you thinking of Tim's Taper Tool? With that you can do the point, nock and back taper, as long as, you have a disk/belt sander.

Thanks for the reply, Snag. But, no, I'm not familiar with "Tim's Taper Tool". I'm pretty sure it was the Woodchuck that was referred to in that long ago conversation. That said, like you, I am scratching my head trying to figure out how to go about it. Maybe a homemade jig that lays on top of the machined plate? Using the top half of the disc to do the cutting, rather than the bottom, so you could clear the arrow stop?

If I could figure out how to barrel taper 23/64" or 11/32" shafts down to 5/16" on each end, that Woodchuck could probably pay for itself before I died of old age!

The Tim's Taper Tool will also do barrel tapers.

Tim's taper tool's work great. I have use both for years. Very easy to use and setup.
