I'll be headed for the Adirondacks tomorrow if my truck is repaired.  Can't wait to get back up there...

But I stalked up to shooting range (20 yards) over 15 minutes on a large doe from 50 yards out in a brushlot and, unfortunately, zinged a sapling - burying the arrow in frozen ground and a clean miss.  That made my whole season.  Been a LONG time since I had made a "successful" stalk on a whitetail.

No venison for me this year.  Had too many non-hunting obligations this year.  Then I broke my toe feeding the dog, so I'm done for the year.

It's the dog's fault.

Had a nice shot from a ground blind at 18 yards on a 6 point.  Put it over top of some goldenrod - and as low as I dared.  Without movement, it would have entered the center of his chest.  But he crouched and the arrow sailed.

Same spot a week later and a different 6 point.  He was on a trail at 9 yards.  He heard my arrow draw against my riser, and left dodge.

Congrats to all you guys that put venison in the freezer.

Next year!
Bob

The deer are still moving. This nice snow made for a great morning. I saw about 30 this morning.

It's looking good.

Pretty short tracking job. Went maybe 70 yards.

I haven't been hunting at all. Too many other obligations right now. I hope to be able to get out with the flintlock next Sat. Will be the last day for me if I can get out. Very pour deer numbers for me this year. I hope this trend doesn't continue!
