Well last spring I joined a few friends at the Baltimore Bowmans Traditional Shoot.  It was one of the best times I have had in a long time and I decided it was time to get back to it. I had  not picked up trad gear since 1972.  After many days on the range and lots of reading and relearning techniques I finally felt ready this fall to take my trad gear afield.  I have to give a shout out to Tragdgang as I gained a lot of knowledge here.

After passing on a few does that still had fawns with them and others that just did not give me that perfect shot I finally got a shot at this buck yesterday evening.  Not to brag but I have not missed a deer in many years with my wheel bow but I was pretty nervous on this first shot with my Big River longbow.  I passed up a lot of shots the last three days out waiting for just the perfect shot.  At times I thought I was being a little picky and using that as an excuse not to take that first shot.  He finally gave me a nice quartering away shot (22 yards).  Picked my spot made the draw and let er fly.  Shot went pretty much where I was looking last rib on the right side and point exited out right behind the off shoulder.  He ran maybe 75 yards and I heard him crash.  Smallest whitetail buck I have killed in many years but I have to rank this right up there as one of my most memorable trophys.

Good lookin' deer, Congrats to you.

No comparison hunting between the two.  This has been a fun journey picking up a new bow, settling on a arrow and Broadhead combo.  And most of all changing my stand locations.  I could easily set up for the 35 yard shot with the wheel.  Not so with the trad gear at least not for me.  By the way I was using a Big River  66" 43#@ 28, using ICS Hunter 500 with a 150 grain Magnus 4 blade.  Very happy with the performance with the Magnus.  Speaking of Magnus I had my arrows fletched with some of Magnus' 5 1/2 natural turkey feathers.
