First off I am in no way shape or form scientific about anything including this test. I'm just bored and I always like to see how my setups penetrate against each other.

This is a Simmons safari with 100gr. steel mounted on a 30" CE heritage 250 shaft. Bow is a Martin Hunter 55#@28" I draw to 29".

The first shot hit an area that was shot out behind it in my bag target. The second had target behind it and probably wasn't as hair popping sharp the second time around.

Since you're bored, can you get a 45* angle shot in. Someone posted about the simmons hitting at an angle with hardly any penetration. Just wondering if an angle will also blow through a phone book.

After posting I remembered I had some Ace Express's mounted up that I was going to try out this year and some old Hi-precisions. I could only get the tip of the 3bld to penetrate. The Ace heads did great though.

At this point the phonebook is a bit shot up and my wife won't give me another. I shot the Ace 5 times hitting different areas each time and they all looked like this.

I'll do my part to keep them in business. I love the Simmons Broadheads. Thanks for sharing your results with us.

The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Twomanyhobbies, I would try but I'm shooting in the basement tonight. Might get another book and update tomorrow.

The Night Stalker

Yep, I would like to see that. I am shooting the tiger sharks this year.

I like them, killed a hog yesterday morning with an old 47 lb. Pearson Raider and Tiger Shark, passthrough went about 60 yards.

That is awesome Rob! I wander what heads would do with phone book from a big city like New York? Those Simmons are bad to the bone.

no doubt about it those simmons are awesome heads. I also think they are the best looking head out there (not that it matters what they look like).
I keep telling myself when I finally shoot up the 50 or so magnus heads I still have in packages im going to try those simmons!

Thanks for the post/pics... Those heads do look awesome.

I may have to get the new file from Ron, and try a half dozen out.

last year I used the Treesharks out of the Hope/faith bow. Deer spun on a already quartered first shot and cut femur in half below the ball. After retrieving I used the same arrow for a finishing shot through 2 sets of ribs and flat of shoulder with the tip touching the ground on opposite side.

So curiosity was killing me last night. Here is what I came up with. Broadhead target quartered away with ribs and hide.

These are 1/2" hardwood dowels gorilla taped with leather stretched over.

If all goes well I can get the head to hit across the ribs instead of in between.

The shot actually turned the arrow into the target. I'm shooting from straight in front of the table.

The sound of the head hitting perfectly flat against to pieces of hardwood was awful but effective.

I'm not sure what knowledge I gained from this but it is fun. Cut both dowels over half way through and suffered no damage. Still shaves hair the full length of the blades. The safari's will be my heads this year.    :archer2:
