Takedown vs. One Piece

O.K. Gang I need some input here. I'm looking at two different hi end longbows. One is available as a 1 piece or T/D. The other ONLY as a 1 piece. Both are, as expected, very well made. The bow that is 1 piece only, to me, has a better grip. However, that being said the other is O.K., too. Just not as appealing to me. Now, for traveling, I think the choice is obvious (T/D). But I would like opinions. Thanks!

Do you travel to hunt, especially fly?

I will be hunting locally and far away (flying for sure at times).

if ya fly a lot as dave said. i would go with the t/d. i have a new one comming in sept and i will be bring that home with me on the plane. and i would say it would fit in my suitcase as it is only 58" total lengh.

Take down if you need to fly to hunt. The extra cost to take a one piece on some airlines is getting up there and there is a lot more chance of a longer case getting damaged than a short one IMO.

TD's are great.  I have actually packed my bow and a handful of arrows on a business trip with me so I could shoot with a friend in Idaho.  Beats the he!! out of sitting in the hotel.

Oh, and another good thing about a TD is when you dry fire it and this happens....oops....

I kinda agree with what everyone says, but it is hard to get the same shooting characteristics from one to the other. I have an Arroyo that I love the grip, but to put that grip on a T/D would not work for me as it is the rest of the bow that makes it a great shooter. I would not worry about the extra few bucks to fly with it and I own and have owned many T/Ds and right now would choose no other bow to bring with me. Shawn

I have both, I think if you will be hunting Mostly locally and the 1 pc. appeals to you more get  it.  when you decide to travel (plane) get the 3pc.  either way you should end up getting both!

Thanks guys for all the comments. I really appreciate them all. Good points. The ultimate decision in the end will probably be practicality for the majority of what I want to do versus my wallet. Thanks again!

If you can't get both get the one that meets more of your requirements.  Sounds like the one piece does that.  Another option for traveling with a one piece is to ship it to your destination and not carry it on the plane with you.  We have all seen how the folks loading luggage on a plane are especially careful with every piece of luggage they handle.

You can also buy the one piece, and add it a Robertson connexion later on when you'll need to travel. The connexion is easy to install, but will make your handle a little bit bigger.

it sounds like your heart wants the 1pc and your head wants the t/d.... i'd go w/ your heart, otherwise i think you'll wish you did.

unless you fly very often i wouldn't worry about it.

I'm a takedown person myself.  One piece bows are lighter and very pretty and great if you are hunting near home, but if you do any kind of traveling whatsoever then the takedown is the way to go.

I like the one pieces., that's all I have now.  I'm flying to Maryland this November and I'm going to mail my bow there a week ahead of time and see how that goes.

Shipping the one piece bows seems to be the way to go on a trip where you have to fly, if possible.

Thanks again gang for all your thoughts. I'm going ahead with the two piece FIRST and then the one piece. You knew I'd probably do that anyway didn't you Mark?! (FYI you missed the new Border Black Douglas from Kevin, Happy Birthday to me!!!!).
