Carbon Arrow Question

I have been shooting ICS Hunter carbon shafts for years with good results.  I just took delivery on a new Palmer Classic Carbon. (Beautiful Bow!)  This bow has plenty of power and I find that my ICS .400 shafts are a little on the weak side with 150gr broadheads.

The Palmer is 54lbs at my 30 inch draw.  My arrows are 31.5" to clear the riser.  With 145gr target points it bareshafts a little weak.  I fletched up a shaft with 3 4" feathers and tried it.  They are still a little weak, but fly okay.  I screwed on some 150gr broadheads and they are flying too weak.

Would you carbon arrow gurus recommend .340 spine or .300?  My current shafts are 8.4 gr per inch and that is fine, but I would not mind going heavier.  I would like to stay with a broadhead between 150 and 200grs.

If you want to stay with a lighter GPI shaft, take a look at the victory VForce HV arrows.  They come in a 350.
I'm experimenting with some 350's and 400's and they are flying extremely well out of a variety of bows.
If you'd rather shoot a heavier GPI, definitely look at Carbon Express Heritage 250 or 350 or the Arrow Dynamics Trads.

I would recommend something in the 340 spine, or you could go to the AD trads.

I would use the arrows you have and build out the sideplate a little.

I find over time you can make over spine shaft work for you but when they are under I just do not seem to work well.

I would go with the 340 spine.

Or use the arrows you have now with 125 gr points or even 100 gr points.

I would try this first before I bought new arrows,maybe you could get them to work.

X2 on what Prairie Drifter said.  You may be surprised with how little you have to build out the side plate to get them tuned.

If you choose to go with new arrows, a .340 works for all of my recurves in the 50#-59# @29" range.  I shoot a 31" arrow, draw 29"+ and use whatever weight head bare shaft tuning shows is correct (150-250 grains).  I like ACCs but Easton Axis is a good shaft too, I'm just not too fond of the HIT inserts.

Thanks for the replies guys!  I have shot some 100gr broadheads with this set up and they are better, but I don't want to go that light for my broadhead weight.

I have experimented with Gold Tip and Carbon Express, and so far the Carbon Express 250's get the nod out of all of my bows.  Cut at 29.5" with 175 grain point, i get a total weight of 549 grains finished arrow (knocks, inserts, 5" feathers, dipped and crested).  I shoot 45 - 52#'s.

The side plate is a good idea or go with a 340, but than you would most likely need at least 175 grains up front if not a tad more. Shawn

Get a round toothpick stick it in behind the strike plate and give er a try.
