First thing I'd do is get a refund on that bow.

Thanks so far guys. I am definitely getting a refund. I am looking for maybe a custom bow, or an in stock bow. I dont want a used bow over the internet, i would like to see it before i bought it if that makes sense. If anybody knows of any bowers around western Pa and eastern Ohio I would love to try some bows out. Not many people where i live use trad bows so its difficult to find people around me, Brooks bows is about an hour and 20 min away from where i live, so I may give them a call and try some of their bows out.

Hill country bows is in Ohio, and has a try before you buy program.  Chad from Holm made archery has a few recurves in stock, and his bows shoot great, are built extremely well, and come with a two year warranty.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

Fedora is also located in Pennsylvania. They have very reasonable prices and are solid performers to boot.

I had a red stag do the same thing on me -won't buy another.  There are some very good deals on the classifieds right now - check em out.  I think I saw a saxon selkirk for 275 tyd - not a bad deal.

I'd try and get my money back. You could have been seriously injured. That's no joke. Buy American! Put Americans to work and keep the money here. Also get American workmanship. I'm glad you didn't get hurt.

I'm just an hour west of the Pa Oh line. I have lots of bows you can try if you're willing to drive a little.

There have been a number of discussions lately about eye-wear...your experience just proves my point that we should never even consider shooting, or even stringing, a bow without protective eyewear...just under the eye is too close for comfort...glad you were not seriously hurt (although I bet that smarted)...I never could understand how the lower priced Samicks could be the great bows people claim them to be at the prices they bring...sure a bow may sell for 150 dollars retail...what value does that bow come out the door of the Korean factory at...I am guessing way under a hundred bucks...on the other hand North American custom bowyers have a tendency to pretty much give away their time and knowledge

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

I see you are from Pa. I never owned a Fedora, but since you are from Pa I would take a ride to his place and talk to him or take a ride to Lancaster Archer and talk to John Wert.  If you are a target shooter check out a metal riser.

Sorry to hear.  $750 is a nice budget.  I'd get a new Zipstick with boo cores and choice of veneers - great 1 piece longbow.  But there is a pile of bows you could buy - especially if looking used.

I'm glad that you're OK... I had that happen a couple of times last year, it's scary for sure.

Like damascusdave said eye protection should be given more consideration by myself and others.

To bad you don't want a used bow. It's a buyers market now, and I've seen a lot of real "steals" lately. That being said check out Predator bows, fast, smooth, and has very nice lines. There are others but out of your budget range.

A used 70's Bear bow will run you roughly a third of your budget.

I have enjoyed my Omega long bow. The bowyer Kegan McCabe can build you a bow to your specs for well under you budget.

Fattony77

If you decide to change your mind about buying used, I have a bow for sale on the classifieds that has a grip very similar to my buddy's Samick, made right here in the U.S. of A.....Just saying...  ;)

In all seriousness, I'm glad that you weren't seriously injured. That would scare the crap outta me!

Look into Hunters Niche, Predator Bows. They have a hunter model recuve for 650. Great people, even better bows, 6-8 weeks.

You have two great bowlers in PA. Mike Fedora and Leon Stewart. Mike makes a great target bow and Leon a terrific long bow.

My son-in law's Red Stag cme aprt on him one month after the warranty ran out. He didn't shoot it that much and it was only drawn to 25" with factory string and 10 gpp arras. Yes you can get a fine new bow with that amount or as others said, a few nice used. It's funny how durable the old vintage bows can be as there are a number of them out there with thousands of shots fired at 40 & 50 yrs. old. Quality materials and attention to detail!
