kodiak vs grizzly

The great fred bear shot a kodiak. But the grizzly is just so smooth as are early kodiaks.
I have a 1970 grizzly 50#@28"  and love this thing. But the kodiak bug has gotten to me. I want a kodiak now. Lol.
Just curious what you all think as far as kodiak vs grizzly?
P.s. Obviously its a slow day at work since I'm surfing tradgang on the phone haha.

The 1970 Grizzly is a 56" bow. The Kodiak in 1970 is a Kodiak hunter-60" and will be fancier, more expensive, smoother, probably a little faster, and that about sums it up.

Not necessarily comparing years Of the two. I know the differences. I am curious what you all think as far as preference. Grizzly or kodiak?

My first real hunting bow was a '67 Grizzly. Fine bow and killed My first deer with it but I really wanted a Kodiak but couldn't afford it then. Since then I've owned many Kodiaks and Super Kodiaks and they are superior in all ways to the Grizzly. More mass weight and stability.

5 or 6 years ago I picked up a very nice '66 Grizzly out of nostalgia'a sake and after shooting it I thought "Ah, it's just an OK shooter, nothing great." I sold it.

I like the 70's grizzlys and most of them are more in my price range but im a cheepo

The grizzly's are fine but they are pretty sluggish. The grizzly was actually my first trad bow and since then I've shot several other models that are similar and the kodiak is definitely superior.

Well, I'm just an old Grizzly fan... Have been for many years!!!

I like the smoother lines & lighter weight of the Grizzly. It's a "working man's bow", Kinda like an old lever action deer rifle.

Just one old woodchucker's thoughts.....

To me the '62 and the '64 were the best years for shooting qualities with the '62 the prettier of the two with the rosewood riser.

I'm with Chuck on this one.  I love some of the Kodiaks but usually turn back to the grizzly.

Grizzly no doubt for me although I want to give the Kodiak one more chance by trying a 64" Super Kodiak some day

The '59 Kodiak represents the epitome of 50's style recurve for me.  I've never shot an original but have tried a couple modern clones and still have a McCullough 59'er.

The new '59 Kodiak reproduction from Bear is a really nice looking bow and one I'd like to try.

I like the Grizzly's but not at 29"+ of draw. My Bear of choice would be a 64" Super K.

Grizzly here....I love the looks and shootability. Many woods and glass colors to pick from over the years and not a one is a bad choice!

I shoot 29+ and have not had any issues with the Grizzlys from the 62" to the 56".

I will admit the 62" models are hard to beat though...

I am with WoodChucker and Cyclic Rivers on this.  

I have a 70's Grizzly that I REALLY like.  

The deer have another opinion of the bow, though!

The 62" Grizzly's from the 1950's and early 1960's shoot as nice as any bows ever made.

I shot my first deer with a grizzly. I've shot the rest with my Kodiak Mag. Just preference. I like the shorter length of the KMag and at my draw length it doesn't stack like some people have problems with shorter bows. Keep in mind there is Kodiak Hunter, Kodiak Magnum, Super Kodiak, Kodiak, Kodiak Special, Kodiak Static.  Lots of options. Just gotta own one of each and find out which one you like best...then I'll "borrow" the leftovers.

Your best bang for the buck is definitely the Grizzly.  For the most part, Grizzlies of the past 50 years shoot very well, look good, are dependable, and sold at very reasonable prices.  

It seems the Kodiak of a given year tends to sell for about twice the cost of the same year Grizzly.  

I do like the nicer Kodiak, but will not shun the Grizzly, especially those from '59-'69.

I have owned and shot pretty much every Kodiak and Grizzly model made up to 1966. The 1956 Kodiak is by far a superior bow to any of the Grizzlies but not by much. The grizzlies from the mid 50's are great shooting bows and the 59,62 Grizzlies are also great shooters and sure are pretty to look at. I hunt with a 56 Kodiak and have one for back up but now I have more grizzlies in my collection than Kodiaks.
