I have seen mention of "Surewood" shafts.  Are these a special wood? or a retailer/arrow builder?  I've enjoyed Rogue River / Wapiti tapered POC shafts for a long time, and just wonder if I should try something different?  Douglas Fir?  Suggest, please!

They are manufacturers of excellent quality douglas fir shafts.  I'm on about my 4th dozen shafts from them and have been 100% satisfied.

I'm making up a dozen of them right now. 60/65#, 9/16" diameter! Great shafts.

I am making a bunch up now for me and my son.  I haven't bought any other shaft for the last few years.

Great service, quick and I mean always suprised by how quickly they deliver. Shafts hardly need straightening right out of box and talk about tough, don't get me wrong if you shoot a bareshaft into a target at an angle will it break? Yes, but after stumping and shooting surewoods seen em survived when they should've broke. Need straightening from time to time but a great shaft to work with!!!

I agree with Darin.  These woodies hold up just as good as any carbon or aluminum, they are cheaper, and a lot more rewarding in the long run.  Very straight and they stay that way.

Only possible negative (not to me), they tend to make a pretty heavy arrow.  Otherwise excellent quality and service.

If you decide to go with them, get them to taper the point and nock ends for you.  Using hand-held "pencil sharpener" type taper tools won't give you a smooth, even taper with Douglas Fir. (at least with the kind I have used)

Just finished a dozen. Straight and very nice looking. I dyed them with yellow leather dye, they look sweet.

We carry both the Surewoods and the Wapiti Tapered POC.  They are proof great wood shafting is still available.

As mentioned above, many Surewoods will not need any straightening.  They will generally be heavier than POC as well, although DF can vary fairly widely in weight in a given spine.  We are always happy to try to accommodate weight requests.

With our low "Fast and Fair" shipping rates, we remain a great place to buy your shafts and all the extras you need to go with them.   :archer2:

I have made hundreds and hundreds of arrows from Surewood shafts for people. I am fortunate to say that the guys at Surewood are personal friends of mine. So I have spent a little time in their manufacturering facility. They are committed to turning out the best shaft in the industry. Their shafts take stain wonderfully and are a joy to make arrows out of. My shop has a custom built and designed tapering machine that I went in halves with the Surewood guys. This machine will nock and tip taper. It also so a great job of putting a 9" tail, or back, taper on the shafts if requested. So after tapering the shafts I then check and will hand straighten any shafts that may need it.

I've made up a few dozen now and really like them, but don't get to thinking you won't break them. I've broken a pile of them "stumping". I shoot some cedar but not enough to really compare, but they seem more brittle to me. Much straighter, though.

I have made up a few dozen Surewoods.  I got my early ones from Dave Doran and lately from Snag at Wilderness Custom Arrows.  They are great shafts and Snag does a nice job with the 9 inch tapering as well as the nock and point taper.  I shot my bear with one of Snag's arrows this year and I will be carrying them this year deer hunting.  My 55# Silvertip longbow loves 65-70 Surewoods with 160 grain VPAs.

Would have to agree with everything already stated. Great people to work with and a great product. Definitely get them to put the tapers on or use some type of sanding jig. I just bought a used woodchuck for just this purpose. Good luck and enjoy.

Wilderness Arrows (Snag) turns out the finest arrows I've ever shot!
