A good friend of mine George Perez and i wanted to put in for the late season blacktail hunt in Monterey County. For California hunters a late season hunt is by draw only. The Monterey hunt is either sex tag.We were suprised to find that we had drawn the Monterey tag.The season for this tag is in Oct.It would be nice to hunt in the cooler weather as our normal deer season opens in July.Morning fog was a nice change in deer camp.

The country is mostly steep. Finding a area to hang a stand would be a challenge. We both found a somewhat flat area that had some deer sign. The country is also very brushy so the deer seem to hang tight.
On the first evening i filled my tag with a nice button buck. The thought of deer in the freezer was nice.

George had to wait until our last morning 4 days latter to fill his tag on a nice doe.

This tag was by no means a give me hunt but we were bleesed to fill our freezer.George is the owner of Rainy Day Bows.So we spent the week talking about bow design and teased over who had the best bow.We shot alot of arrows in camp and had fun trading our bows back and fourth. We both had a great time on this late season tag.Dont know if ill try for it again, but this trip was one im sure i wont soon forget.
The setup i used on this hunt was a Cyclone longbow 51#@31" 64", Surewood fir shaft 580 grns.with a Magnus 2 blade.

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.
