Just wondering if Ron and his bunch had their yearly bowhunt yet? may be asking too late or too soon; love his stories and the pictures of "shrew heaven"; thank you.

There was a mountain man sighting up here in the U.P. they might be at Shrew Haven now.

Ron had a brief stay in the hospital and last I heard was doing okay.  Docs advised him to pass on Shrewhaven this year, but I'm not sure if he was going to listen to their advice. (Once we get to a certain age it's hard to tell us old geezers anything, LOL) Check the 'Prayer" forum for an update.

They released me from the hospital the day before I was scheduled to leave for camp. The doctor said he couldn't keep me from going but he strongly recommended that I stay home for awhile close to a good hospital just in case I had a recurrence of my problem.

At first I was going to go anyway but then I thought I'd better not. I haven't missed going to deer camp at Shrew Haven in the 21 years that I've had it so it was tough staying home, but knowing the guys were up there doing their thing made it easier somehow. They would call me every day and tell what was going on.

Greg's wife Dianne was in camp with Greg the week before the other guys came up and she killed her FIRST deer with her Shrew Classic Hunter on her SIXTY FIRST BIRTHDAY!!   :clapper:    :clapper:    :clapper:

Here's some of the boys sitting in the cabin. The deer pole was a little sparse  this year, they only took three deer...   :dunno:  Ray on the right took a nice big doe (note the smile)

Well of course the words can't be found to tell everyone how much we missed Ron in camp this year. Yes there were only three deer on the pole this year and we debated taking or not taking the traditional picture in front of the deer like in other years. We agreed that we'd do an inside the cabin group photo only and reserve the classic photo for when Ron's back next year.  Here's a couple of pictures that I was fond of the first being Greg's wife Diane relaxing on the sofa reading a book.  I'm assuming this was taken after she had the deer hanging and could relax knowing someone in the family had brought home the bacon and could fry it up in the pan

Next, here's the deer that I shot with my 56" Super Shrew Classic Hunter 'Anniversary Bow'. The long story short is my wife got an upgraded diamond ring for her anniversary and I got a new foam/carbon "shadow gray" anniversary bow.

Most of my friends told me I could've got 5 Shrews bow bolt Shrews to equal the upgrade. All I've got to say is who says I'm done?  :biglaugh:

Thanks for the updates. I too look forward to the story's and pictures that you fine folks post at shrew haven.  It reminds me of the the days as a kid when my dad took me to deer camp in Vermont. They were good times that I will never forget.

Ron, I hope you feel better soon,  Glen

I had conversed with Roger a few days ago about some wool and asked him about the annual thread.... ? I kinda had a feelin something wasn't right with Uncle Ron cause he always puts this thread up before, during, and after ShrewHaven week.

Thanks for updating us. We got lots of good things in the South but just do not have all the traditions and trappings of a honest to goodness deer camp like you Yanks do. Yes, I am a little jealous ! Ron you get well now ya hear....  :readit:

Best wishes Ron...my whole family hopes you are feeling better.

I am sure there is a piece of ground in the U.P. that is missing YOU just as much as you are missing IT.

Roger, yes I consider you an indirect acompliss in that day. Therefore, Mary and Morgan will come see you when the college fund is a little light down the road.    :readit:    ;)

Just kidding buddy, it was a fun trip south and glad we could get together. The say a diamond is a girls best friend, but it's a husbands best investment.

My favorite part of any hunting trip is sharing camp with friends old and new. Sorry you were unable to be there this year, Ron, but they can't keep a good man down -- or you either!    :D

I've had great fun with my Shrews this year in hunting camps on both sides of the world. Wonderful bows.

Ron- I feel your pain, I had my knee replaced last year and was layed up during prime time, but was well worth it for this year and the years to come.  I know it's hard, but the caution and effort now will be rewarded later.  Just as in all the years ago with the hard work and practice as well as sacrifice of mastering the longbow, this to will yield great results.
