5:52 pm she hopped her gimpy walk up the hill and bore to the right side of my stand. I was glad she went there since I had recently made the switch to shooting lefty. My mind was already choosing a spot as she angled to continue up the hill. I tried to block the miss earlier this season out of my mind as I drew smoothly to anchor. She was only about 12 yards away, but man what a small target. I had decided to loose to put her out of her misery. The Asbell wool pullover had kept me warm and concealed. She didn't know I was there at all.

It was over quickly. I watched the white feathers now stained pink disappear and spit right out the other side. The 125 grain grizzly broadhead did the job exceedingly well. The spot where my arrow had entered was instantly covered in dark blood. She did her best impression of a sprint across the top of the hill and smacked into several sapplings launching her just to the right and angling down the hill a bit. I thought I heard her crash and I knew the shot was good, but I waited for 30 minutes to get down from my stand anyway.

I found the arrow, blood already drying. No sign of anything but a perfect lung/heart shot.  I thanked God for the opportunity to feed my family and for providing for us in his beautiful creation.

Sorry for the poor pic, it was dark and I only had my phone. It took us a little while to find her which is an especially hard task considering I am color blind and cannot see blood on the leaves. Nevertheless we did find her. She had a gaping wound in her rear end where someone had likely shot her during our early muzzleloader season. I doubt I will be able to salvage much meat, but some is better than none. I feel blessed to have taken my first trad deer!

Congrats Kyle she's a nice one. I can't help believe kills like that help restore confidence after a miss,

Someday you and I will take the Great Hart by our own skill alone, and with an arrow. And then the Little Gods of the Woods will chuckle and rub their hands and say, "Look, Brothers. An Archer! The Old Times are not altogether gone!"

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

Congrats khardrunner. I'm colorblind too. Seeing blood on leaves is next to impossible and it's aggrivating. I have to get help sometimes.

Thanks for taking us along. I hope your act of mercy is rewarded in the future.
