WOW are the ticks BAD right now!!! took a friend to a spot by my house and WARNED him about the ticks. well he said he was not worried, never had a problem, i tld him treat his clothers any way. he didn't, BAD idea!!! mine are all treated with a HEAVY dose of Permethrine which is the only thing i have found to work %100 so far. well long story short, we jumped in his truck after hunting and he looked like a bobcat in a phone booth with a red hot poker.... well you know. he was COVERED and i mean COVERED!!!!! had to be well over 100 or more on his clothes. NOTHING on me. lesson learned ehh!!!

Hunting was hazardous, but at least it guaranteed the freedom of the individual.

There is no doubt that the onset of farming saw the end of leasure for the majority of people, who were destined to toil in the fields.

Been using that stuff for a few years now. Just be sure to treat your clothes BEFORE you put them on and let them dry in an open area.

where do you get this stuff
for your cloths

Rob W.

The stuff just flat works! Haven't had a tick since I started using it. Has made my camping and early season hunting soooo much more enjoyable.

I buy mine in a concentrate at the local Rural King and mix accordingly depending on application.
This stuff ain't no rocket surgery science!

Dicks sporting goods sells it. i have tried MANY different things and its the ONLY one that works!

The first time I used it was on a canoe trip in Canada. I couldn't read the label, but I knew that I did not want it on my skin, so I sprayed it on my clothes and just a little on my dog's back.  The first canoe trip that nobody had any ticks. The first time I used it turkey hunting was the next spring, this time I followed the directions. A turkey was up the hill from me and a tick was walking up my pant leg.  The tick got to about my pocket stopped and then fell on the dirt, stone dead. Permethrine is dangerous, and to think it is the active ingredient in that stuff I streak down my dog's back for fleas and ticks. Why is it okay to dip a dog in it for fleas and humans have to make certain it is dry before they put their clothes on?  My vet did have a good answer, as in none.

The only thing that fire ants have done for Texas is they nocked tick populations way back.  Of course also:  Quail, deer, turkey, rabbits, and anything that the very young are on the ground.

You can get it in a quart quantity of 33% permethrin from pest control supply houses.  This is the most economical way to buy it I think.  Unless you want a gallon.  That may be what I buy next time.

I treat my house outside and some places inside like my dogs bedding and crate.  Treat all my work clothes every so often because I am outside a lot and it repels ticks, mosquitos, and the biting gnats we have here.

I am really liking this 10" of snow and mid twenties temps right now.  :D  You can have your ticks   :p

No snow yet, but cold enough here too.
We had a few here since the spring, like 3.
Feeling pretty lucky...

Peremethrin is awesome.
Here's some good reading, and it should put some of your concerns and worries to rest.
Just use according to precautions.

This is an important quote:

Pyrethrins are efficiently metabolized by mammalian livers (11). Breakdown products, or 'metabolites,' of permethrin are quickly excreted and do not persist significantly in body tissues (8). There are no methods for identifying metabolites in the urine (11). When permethrin is administered orally to rats, it is rapidly metabolized and almost completely eliminated from the body in a few days. Only three to six percent of the original dose was excreted unchanged in the feces of experimental animals (14). Permethrin may persist in fatty tissues, with half-lives of 4 to 5 days in brain and body fat (22). Pyrethroids do not block, or inhibit, cholinesterase enzymes (11).

Thanks for the info on where to purchase.

Before certain deployments, we did a mass permethrin soaking of all our Marine's utility uniforms.  We were strictly warned to not touch the stuff with bare skin- uniforms had to be completely dried and aired out before we got them reissued to us.

The stuff does work though.

The product you buy and mix for livestock, is a different formulation than that sold to put on your clothing.

There is another recent thread on here about this.

I am very leery of exposure to chemicals that can kill anything that quickly.

It is absolutely essential. I do not go to the woods at all without it. I spray my clothes inside and out the night before a hunt and have no problems. The risks from exposure to these chemicals, in my opinion, are far less than the risk of lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fecer, etc.

Ticks are bad news. I got sick from bites last year about this time and I thought I was dying. The doctor never said I had lyme disease but I sure had all of the symptoms. I was treated with a heavy dose of antibiotics. I later read an article about deer fly fever/rabbit fever and it causes similar symptoms. Be careful. I now use permethrine too.
