So I am up early to meet my hunting buddy for a public land hunt.  We pull in around a quarter to six and start to walk to our spots.  It is foggy as all get out!  I know the general area that I will be hunting, but not sure of the tree, so I needed it to be just getting light.  Sure enough I found a tree close to a couple fresh rubs and proceeded to put up the lone wolf sticks.

I tied my tree saddle off, got the bow on its hanger, and realized that I needed to trim a couple branches to my left.  I look right going for the saw, and see a buck about 40 yards out and closing fast.

One problem!  My tab is in my pocket. After a second of trying for it I ditched the idea in favor of nocking an arrow.  By the time the arrow was nocked he was at three yards and about to clear my last shooting lane.  I hit anchor and released.  I hit him high and he went right down.  I nocked another arrow, hit anchor, and my brain was telling me something wasn't right as I hit anchor.  I realize that I put the cock feather in and couldn't feel it on my nose.  I release and put it through both lungs (mind you this happened in seconds).

Got him home, went to work, got home around 4:00, and spent the next 4 hours processing him.  Finished around 8 and made dinner.  Tenderloin, Mushrooms, and Onion were never so good!

This is my first deer with a recurve, and my first deer on public land.  Woohoo!!

He had a small rack, but a good size body, which is fine for me.  More deer meatballs!

A note on the tree saddle.  I will not go back to a regular climber.  This is my second season.  I now feel like a seasoned pro with it.  It is the only way to go!
