I shoot a Centaur Chimera 55@28" and my draw length is 28". I am wondering if I can get the 400's to tune with 300 grains up front without having to cut them too short? . Any insight is appreciated. Thx!

Adam S. Daugherty

Wilder, I shoot a 56 at 28 silvertip recurve with 30 inch axis 400's with 175 grains up front.  I have shot up to 225 grains on these arrows with good flight.  I am going to bet that you may have to go up a notch in spine with 300 up front, but that is just a guess.  I bet someone will know for sure shortly, lots up folks shooting some high FOC set ups on here these days.

Thanks, Adam. I think you are right about maybe needing to jump up to the 340's. Hopefully I will get a few more opinions.

Razorbak

The bowyer at centaur is shooting 400 spine shafts out of his mid 50 s bows and has a shorter draw than you and gets great flight no problem

Shooting my Centaur Triple Carbon Elite
50@28 (my draw-28"s)
350 splined arrow...29.5"
100 grain insert
175 grain point
490 gn total wt

Bare shafts slightly weak out to 40 yards.
Bare shafts slightly stiff with a 145 gn tip out to 40 yards.

Note: The Dark Matter versions such as mine have the shelf cut to ~1/8" past center. Mine has been shimmed out ~.045.

Keep in mind that my results are merely one data point and your results may be vastly different.

I left a message for Jim. I shot full length 340 tonight with a 100 grain insert and a 200 grain point. Bareshafted just a touch stiff. It looks like I am in between shafts if I wan to stick with this point weight configuration. Unfortunately I don't have any 400's to play with yet.

Thanks for the info!

NBK

Shoot again tomorrow and see if they're still stiff.  I don't trust myself to go off of one shooting session with bareshafts.  I try to do at least a couple different times just to be sure.  I would have guessed 340's based on my other bows, but my current Whip 50@28, (I draw 29 so 53# or so), is shooting 400's with 300gr. up front cut to 30 1/4".

For what it's worth, I shoot a HH Cheetah 56@28. Draw 27.5 .400spine 29.5in. with 310 up front. Shoots very nice for me.
