Ever since shooting this Big Guy back in January and then tracking him shortly after the shot, I've added a few security items to my Hog Tracking Pack!

1) Pistol grip tippit caper...forged 52100 ball bearing steel, OAL 7" with 3" blade, walnut handle.

2) S&W 27-2 .357 mag 4" barrel (yes it is legal to carry a handgun while bowhunting Hogs in South Carolina)

Jeff, not a bad idea. I've often thought about it myself while down there and on my hands and knees in a tunnel that has no way out but the way you came in. You get my pm about Mills' knife?

Nice hog and thats a very cool knife.Leave the pistol in the truck,it takes away from the dance.Ever seen a average pistol shooter try and shoot a charging hog of that size, every body around is in danger.

To be traditional, the Smith has to be pinned and recessed.

Killy, does that mean my 29-2 is good to go, even if I only load heavy .44Spl's?

Actually, I was rather taken with the knife - more so than the .357. That is one graceful looking slicing and dicing machine.

Grrat hog there!  When I go in the dark, it is with my dog, usually. Makes me feel better. The way I shoot a pistol, I would probably shoot mysef, lol.

Killy,
Yes indeed it is Pinned & Recessed...all steel not plastic.  Made in Massachusetts...even though I could Not buy that same gun from out of state and bring it back because it does NOT comply with the MA Consumer Protection
regulations and/or the 1998 Gun Control laws!!

In other words, the only way to get that gun is it had to be registered in MA prior to 1998! Mass is NOT a very user friendly state to hunters  :(

Tippit, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I hope you won't be too offended if something like that knife should find its way to my belt. That thing REALLY turns me on!

I never made an original knife in my life, so no sense changing now   :D

Ron,
I'm glad you like it.  It was made from a 4" piece of 52100 bar stock scrap.  I power hammered the handle in and stretched the blade.  Only one requirement if you are going to make one...post it on the knife forum or send me a picture.  Good Luck...tippit

I'm going in for knee replacement surgery this coming Wednesday, so it will be a bit before I try. I do have a 1/2" O-1 rod and definitely need some arm exercise.

In fact, I'm thinking a little forging exercise might be in order to thoroughly aggravate my neighbor who called the cops on me for shooting my bow in the city limits. He works nights. Bet once I get back on my feet he has a few sleepless days. That magnet and bucket of sand might just fall off the anvil   :)

I too take the dog .... and much like Pat , I cannot hit the side of the proverbial barn with a handgun ... despite using them for work, regular training , i am a terrible pistoleer ...

But it sure is a sweet looking rig .

Had to start carrying one up in Maine at my friends place, the locals came up to tell us they spotted a cougar with cubs.
