I have a 85# long bow and im looking for some arrows. I have been shooting carbon and was wondering if wood would be a better choice for me? I do not currently have arrows for this bow so any wood or carbon suggestions would be helpful.

JamesKerr

I would think either the 250 spine Full Metal jacket dangerous game or Grizzly stick safari shaft would just about do it.

Great weight! My Hill longbows & woodies go together. Never argue against any arrow choice though. Whatever suits you.

i was thinking i wanted to try some nice trad wood arrows. it just sounds right with a long bow.lol.

How long is your draw and what is the riser cut of the bow?

pdk25

Totally depends on the cut of your riser.  Even so, I am pretty sure the 250 spined arrows will be too weak.  Might get lucky with the gold tip kinetic 200 arrows.

I'm shooting 81# @ 30 and love my Arrow Dynamics hammerheads, thats with nearly 400 grains up front.

80# @ 29.5 GN super Ghost

go to your local hardware store and pick up some peeler posts in the fencing department, they ought to work:) holy crap thats a lot of bow at that draw length. I thought I had a short list of usable arrows with 62# at 31"

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

I believe Surewood Shafts can hook you up with woodies that will work.  I'd give them a call.  If not, try a few broomsticks.

I am shooting goldtip kinetics out of my 84# at my 30.5" draw buffalo bow. My bow is cut to center and shoots the 800g arrows great at full length. 800g includes 400g up front.

If I were to cut them as much as a 1/2", they would be too stiff.

I've got a dozen 2419s if you're interested.

FoMoCo429

I have a couple of bows around 84-86# at 31½" I shoot full length Beeman MFX 300s with 100gn inserts & 300gn points. Total arrow weight of ~840gn.

Wood will be tough with that long draw............most woodies today are cut to 32 which is not long enough for a 31" draw especially with a BH. You could lengthen by footing say with a Reparrow giving you the required length.
For spine: 80# add 5 for center cut 15-20 for length 5 for FF type string and 5 if you are going to a 150 gn head.
Puts you at 115# you could get Surewoods at those specs; but you'd have to foot for length. There are arrow shafts that are longer; but you would likely encounter spine inadequacies.

I have some Gt 75/95's if you are interested. 6 uncut, I also have a long draw but I don't pull that much weight.YET....

Yea he did, wasn't no meteor either. He was routed into extinction by a caveman shooting a heavy longbow and a 800+ grain arrow!

Good job Robert, hope you find the perfect arrow for that knuckle draggin' beast of a longbow you have there! I just had Pat Carter build be a dozen 90-95# spine Surewoods for my 83# NM Classic. Mine will be cut to around 29" and I am hoping to get 200-230 grains up front for a total of 800 grains. Picking them up at the Hill Classic next week so we will see.

thanks for all the advise. i will for sure try the broom sticks.lol. i love the knuckle draggin' beast of a long bow that i have. One of my buddys made it for me. He also made my recurve. Both are beautyful in there own way.

I have 100 gr inserts in them very lightly glued, do you want those in there? I remember the 429's that was a motor. There is no substitute for CID.
