We all have had those frustrating bowhunts for turkeys where everything that can go wrong does go wrong. In fact it seems like that many times is the true nature of bowhunting for turkeys. My hunt Easter morning was not one of those kind of hunts. I have killed quite a few turkeys with my bow since I managed to finally arrow the 1st one back in 2004 but I have never had a hunt go as seamlessly as the one this Sunday. My blind was set up from the day before which had been the opening day of the SD archery turkey season. The winds blew in excess of 30 mph all day (many times in considerable excess) and I did not see or hear a turkey.  I got into the blind at 10:15 am on Sunday morning. It took me about a minute to set up my little video camera and get settled. My first series of calls was immediately answered by a chorus of gobbles. I called again and could tell I had multiple turkeys incoming! I took a peek out of the blind and saw 3 jakes on a dead run. I start the camera recording and await developments. The jakes held up momentarily out of my vision and had gone silent. I hit the slate call again and I get an instant response and can tell they are coming to my setup. One jake is all puffed up and comes between me and the decoys only to be greeted with a 160 grain Snuffer attached to a 600 grain arrow. He runs and flops about 40 yards or so and is done. Time now 10:20 am! I was using my BigEast bow that I have named old reliable.
This is how I found him.

This is a picture of my setup with the turkey and the BigEast in the foreground.

Hopefully this link will take you to the video of my quickest turkey hunt ever!

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.
