Just wondering which would be smoother on the draw,Osage or Yew for the limb wood?

Thanks for the advice,
David Janssen

Orion

Bamboo.  Really, not much difference between them.

I have had both .. The osage 68" 53# @ 27" , whilst a bit more thumpy at the shot , was without doubt the smoothest drawing Bow I have ever shot ...
But My yew Hill style bows and Hill bows are my faveourite all round best mannered shooters .....

Never shot either one but yew and rocky mtn. juniper both have a good reputation for smoothness among Hill shooters

I have an English yew, string follow, Union Jack. Smoothest drawing bow that I've ever shot. Super quiet on release. Not the speed demon of R/D bows, but it doesn't take a backseat to any other bow when it comes to consistency and accuracy.

Im with Swampthing!(The Longer One.)
KEEP IT SIMPLE!

I believe Swamp made a good point...brief but good.  I have owned and shot an all osage longbow - 66" and two hill half breeds (yew/boo) but have not shot an all yew cored bow as Ben and others.

I know this does not directly answer your question but I  have to echo the bamboo chant here...IMO there is nothing better you can have for a limb core than bamboo....Yew, osage or whatever as veneer if you like the look but boo is king....for several reasons.

Over the years I have owned a Croc, and Redman and as far as I'm concerned don't think there is a lot of difference tween them. Both are good smooth shooters, however I think if you were to add a couple of lams of bamboo, either Halfbreed or Owl, you will be well pleased.

Yew or bamboo, or the halfbreed and get a great combo, I second "the longer one".  68" for me at 27 1/4" draw

swampthing

I think Howard said it best, Don't step down to a 66" unless you have a 26" draw.
I doubt one could tell the difference on the draw. The release is where the small details will be more likely noticed.

Had to have a 2nd look at that beaut Dan. Really a nice looking bow!

Always said there wasn't a minute's difference between all fiberglassed Hill bows speedwise. I have an osage which is slightly slower but bends real nice. No yew yet but have shot yews before which have a well deserved reputation. My 31" draw prefers longer bows at 70" ntn.

I have 3 Hill's, none of which are Osage. My 64", 5 lam TD "Red Man" is outstanding, but my "66" "Cheetah" is perhaps a little smoother to draw. I believe that is because of the extra 2 inches in length. At my just short of 28" draw, I would not go shorter than 64" in length. As for the longer Hill's (over 66' in length), they are probably smoother but I find them to be a little long for travel in my truck(full size Chevy). I'm always afraid I'll snap off a bow tip when shutting the door. Now back to the original question. Go with the "RedMan". The Yew is awesome. "That's my story and I'm sticking to it".

That is a fine looking Union Jack!

Between the redman and halfbreed, I have both, I don't think you add much with all yew, it is smooth, but I really like the halfbreed too and seems to spit an arrow faster. JMO. I am and would be completely satisfied with either one.

Now that I've really thought about it
