New Guy With questions

Hi, all. I wanted to introduce myself, and ask a couple of questions.

I am new to trad shooting. I was given a Samick Sage for Christmas, and have been working to get everything tuned well.

The bow has 45# limbs, and I'm shooting off a cartel hunter rest. I am drawing 30.75" and my measurement of that draw has me pulling right at 52#.

So, now to my question (New Guys gotta have questions) I have two sets of arrows. CX Heritage 150's (456) and 250's (563). Both sets full length with 5" shields. According to Stu Miller's S/Sheet I should be running 90 grn on the 150 and 125 grn on the 250. My testing has shown that 100 work OK on the 150's and 175 works ok on the 250's. I was really expecting to need heavier weight on both of those. Do these weights sound right to you guys? Any suggestions? I read about folks running 300 plus up front and getting good results.

Btw, I am currently running a 3 rivers FF sting with string leaches on the bow. At this rate I would need to get CX 350's before I could even come close to the 225 grns I wanted to run on the front end.

Sounds about right to me. Your main "problem" is your draw length is approaching full length arrows with not much room for reducing the length of arrows. You may indeed have to go to the 350s if you want to get the head weight up.

I wouldn't sweat it though, your setup is fine for hunting.

That's really all I care about. With all of the high FOC discussions I thought I would check in. I am planning to leave the shafts full length. I'll be footing the 250's as well. I may just get rid of the 150's they should go fast uncut.

I would suspect the 250s will still work even with the heavier head. Even if the spine is a bit on the weak side it will probably still shoot well. I would expect 350s to be stiff even with the heavier head. The reason is I am shooting full length 350s with 360 grains up front out of my new 83# Northern Mist Classic. These arrows are only slightly weak and I do plan to shorten them some to get absolute perfect flight but they shoot pretty good as is. Oh, I pull a little over 29" so that would be around 87# at my draw.

Typically, I can obtain decent arrow flight with arrow set-ups ~2#'s underspined.

I prefer to target for arrow set-ups 15#s under-spined and especially ~28#s underspined ranges for optimum flight.

Welcome from Kentucky. I am built like a T-rex with little short arms. Afraid I have no opinion for a long draw like yourself, enjoy the trad path.

I'm like Kentucky,short arm guy.Many times you'll find things will work right and defy what others and the charts say,every bow and shooter are differant.I shoot some wacky combinations that aren't SUPPOSE to shoot well,but they do .Just keep an open mind,keep it simple and enjoy.

According to Stu's Calculator I should be able to get 350's flying with 145 on the front. Based on my experiance with the 250's I would probably end up with with close to 250-300 up front. That would give me an arrow around 700 grains with 16-20% FOC. How does that sound?
